What you'll do

Come spend a few hours with me at Rebuilding Exchange to make a unique cutting board out of locally sourced ash and other hard woods. This project is the perfect introduction to working with hard wood. Participants will leave with a beautiful finished piece and get the opportunity to use a router, drill press, and orbital sander to smooth and shape their cutting boards, and apply a walnut oil finish to protect the wood. Workshop will be followed by a short walk over the river to have a refreshing drink, some food, and good conversation at Devour 312 - one of the local favorites in Chicago’s iconic Lincoln Park neighborhood. Participants receive their first drink free!

About the organisation

Rebuilding Exchange

Our mission is to create a market for reclaimed building materials. We do this by diverting materials from landfills and making them accessible for reuse through our retail warehouse, by promoting sustainable deconstruction practices, by providing education and job training programs, and by creating innovative models for sustainable reuse.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Rebuilding Exchange.

Where you'll be

RX is located in the popular Bucktown neighborhood in Chicago, right on the Chicago River. The warehouse that now houses RX was a sheep sheering facility back in the day. After the workshop, participants will take a short stroll across the river to enjoy a drink at one of our favorite local bars, Devour 312.
