What you'll do

Let us take you on a journey through time of one of Dublin’s most vibrant and colourful neighbourhoods, the Liberties (where your guide, Derek, has lived all his life). We’ll begin our tour in the Garda Siochana Memorial Gardens (Located just behind Dublin Castle). As you explore the rich history of the area, local folklore and hidden gems, Derek will share with you stories of growing up in the Liberties, his experiences of homelessness, the passions that helped him through his lowest points and his hopes for the future. We’ll wrap up our tour approximately 90 minutes later near St Patricks’s Tower, a great place for you to continue your day and explore more of Dublin’s many attractions.

Hi, My name is Derek and I'm a co-founder of Secret Street Tours. I worked in the homeless services sector for many years before becoming homeless myself. I'm now back on the path to independent living and loving my experience as tour guide. I look forward to welcoming you on my Secret Street Tour, where I'll share with you the history of my local neighbourhood, some key landmarks and hidden gems, as well as sharing some of my experiences of homelessness. I'm hoping to show you a side of Dublin, that you wouldn't otherwise see. I look forward to meeting you soon :)

About the organisation

Secret Street Tours

Secret Street Tours is a nonprofit social enterprise that trains those affected by homelessness to become walking tour guides of their neighbourhoods, empowering them with skills and a platform to tell their story. Our tours give a voice to a community that is often talked about rather than listened whilst offering the public an accessible channel to engage with this important social issue.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Secret Street Tours.
