Join abstract artist and natural ink maker Melissa, as she guides you in the process of foraging and crafting your very own natural inks in a winter rural setting. She will guide you around her farm, forests and wetlands as you forage for ink-making seasonal plant material. You will have the opportunity to cuddle her pet chickens and ducks if you so wish as you wander the property. Then you will gather around a bonfire to warm up with socially distanced hot drinks and yummy treats. Next you will move to the outdoor cooking station (beside a propane firepit) and learn the art and techniques of handcrafting inks. The workshop is designed to be both mindful of social distancing and facilitate being inspired by the idyllic landscapes. You will take home your natural inks and recipes.
Other things to note:
All cooking utensils and materials will be provided and all will be disinfected before the workshop.

I am an abstract artist, natural ink maker and former high school teacher. I have taught multiple workshops at West Elm Toronto, Rug and Weave in Guelph and in various locations in and around Erin. I am passionate about teaching others to transpose their experiences in nature into abstract interpretations of art. I live, teach and paint in my studio in our little stone farmhouse nestled into the rolling hills of Erin. My studio is framed by windows looking out onto dazzling golden fields, towering pine trees, a flourishing apple orchard and a natural pond.

Melissa is a FANTASTIC host!! She was super welcoming when we arrived, gave great directions/instructions prior to our arrival, and was ready to answer all of our questions the day of our experience. Our experience was extra magical, as there was a fresh blanket of snow on the farm. She really lets her passion shine through in her presentation, and her storytelling is quite engaging. If you are even remotely interested in learning some nature-based skills, I would HIGHLY recommend this adventure to you!!

Absolutely an incredible afternoon, with a gracious, knowledgeable host! Thank you so much, Melissa for sharing your creativity with us. We had the best time, in an idyllic setting - the falling snow made it even more special. Highly recommend this experience.

My sister and I had the absolute best time foraging and making natural inks with Melissa. Everything about our day was magical. Melissa's property was gorgeous, with a beautiful stone home and small pond on the property, and was surrounded by farmers' fields and woods. The late October weather meant beautiful fall colours and the weather was perfect. We foraged with Melissa for berries and leaves to use to make ink and then returned to the ink making station to learn from Melissa and her vast knowledge of ink. After making and learning we had a chance to paint with the ink at a table set up on a whimsical spot on the property. Melissa had everything set up so thoughtfully, with a personalized take home bag for both my sister and I, which included the inks we made, ink recipes, and fresh eggs from her chickens. We couldn't have enjoyed ourselves anymore! We loved chatting with and learning from Melissa and were so happy with our experience!
