About your host

I'd been visiting New Plymouth for years, and living here since 2015, and was fascinated by its transformation under the influence of the coastal walkway. No-one else had written the story, so I dug deep in local knowledge and wrote a book as a guide for visitors wanting to maximise their walkway experience. I continue to enjoy walking it, and offer my friendship and knowledge to fellow explorers.

What we’ll do

Most people like to start at the wind-wand, in the centre of New Plymouth. From there, we will take a gentle hours' walk, which gets us to the Port or Te Rewa Rewa bridge. Along the way I'll share stories about the Walkway's origins, and New Plymouth's history. At the end, you get a complimentary copy of my book, to continue your enjoyment of the region.

What else you should know

Be in touch to customise your walk. The walk is gentle, on a wide, concrete path with slight rise and falls, but no steps. Any type of footwear is suitable, and it is wheelchair friendly.

What I’ll provide

'Back to Front' book: a guide and history.

Where you'll be

We start at the Millennium wind-wand, New Plymouth's tribute to Len Lye, and we finish either at Pioneer settlers monument at the Otaka Pa overlooking overlooking the Port, or at the Te Rewa Rewa bridge, beside the Waiwhakaiho river. There are 8-14 stops on the way, which I can tailor to your interests.
