What you'll do
I will take you for a spin in my 1973 Porsche 911 along the Sally Gap, which is one of two east-to-west passes in the Wicklow Mountains built by the British Army after the Irish rebellion of 1798. We will stop for a Guinness (or any drink of your choice) at the Johnny Fox's, Ireland's highest and most famous pub. Looking like a 19th century rural Irish home it has been attracting guests from all over the world and local people alike. Next we head further uphill and visit Ireland's only German war cemetery. As we go further all the way to the peak we take in the stunning, barren scenery giving us views of the entire Wicklow Mountains. So close to Dublin and yet so unspoiled. The last location we will see from high above before we head back is Lough Tay, also known as the Guinness Lake as it's owned by the famous family. If you watch the TV series “Vikings” you will recognise it as Kattegat village, home to the series' hero Ragnar and his family. Depending on your interest I would of course love to share more of my knowledge about classic Porsche 911s and the history of mine which was first delivered to the caribbean island Guadalupe, next spent 30 years in Hollywood before it got France, Britain and Ireland, where I bought it in February 2014. Last but not least we can also take some instagramable pictures with my car if you wish.
I have been living in Ireland 12+ years and worked in various management positions at the EMEA offices of Silicon valley tech companies. I love the fact that living in Dublin I can get all the buzz of a multicultural city while a short drive can take me to beautiful, unspoiled nature. However, driving around the country to me is not just about the locations, it is also about the car. I fell in love with the Porsche 911 since I had an opportunity for a test drive in 1998 in my home country Austria. Through the years I owned different Porsche 911s until I found my dream classic Porsche 911 from 1973. I had a full nut and bolt restoration done in 2014, my car won the Porsche Club Ireland Concours d'Elegance and I also love writing about the topic as the editor of a classic Porsche magazine.
