About your host

Activist, musician, filmmaker and spoken word poet! I’ve been writing poetry since I was a kid. I love the way poetry speaks the truth. Life is short–we’ll all be dead soon–so who has time for anything else? I created this tour as a way of sharing my love for poetry. I look forward to meeting you and am deeply honored to share Vancouver’s culture with new friends.

What we’ll do

We'll meet at one of my favorite cafés in one of the most culturally rich parts of Vancouver. As we sip a hot drink, you'll learn about the city’s history as a creative hotspot for poets. You’ll then take part in a poetry workshop where you will create your own piece. We’ll then check out Vancouver’s most popular open mic night—a live show where you will have the opportunity to share your work…

What I’ll provide

Drinks
Tea/Coffee
Equipment
Pencils and Paper

What to bring

If you prefer typing to writing, then bring your laptop. Feel free to capture the experience in pictures and video.

Where you'll be

We’ll meet up at a coffee shop on commercial drive called Pado Café. We’ll explore some of Vancouver’s history and craft our poetry there. After that, we’ll walk a block down to our final destination–Café deux Soleils–where spoken word poetry will be performed. You’ll have a chance to grab a bite to eat there as well if you’d like.
