What you'll do

Spend the day immersing yourself with Catalan culture! Learn about the history of Catalunya, go back in time to see medieval ruins, eat traditional Catalan cuisine, and watch an amazing Catalan tradition - correfocs (fire runners). This is the loudest and liveliest event you’ll see in Barcelona - you won’t regret it! Correfoc translates in English to “fire run.” Troupes of people dress up in devil-like garments and run through the streets with loud (and dangerous) fire crackers on sticks, accompanied by an upbeat drum line. Rather than running in fear, people are actually invited to join in the festivities and dance along with the drum beat, under the exploding fire. Humans as well as beasts carry the flames - it’s a sight to see! In this half-day program, we’ll visit various spots in the old town to learn about the history of Catalunya and its incorporation into Spain in 1714. We’ll visit an old market space where you will see medieval ruins relevant to that time. We’ll stop at a restaurant so you can taste some local Catalan flavors. Then we will finish the night with a bang, literally! We’ll head down to the area where the correfocs are set up and enjoy the festivities.

Kimberly

I'm an American who has been living in Barcelona since 2010. Despite teaching English for 5 years, I discovered that my true passion in the city was showing others around and sharing the magical feeling that I felt when I first arrived. I like to share lots of stories and anecdotes about the local history and culture as well as the local life. In my free time I love exploring the city and cultural activities or events. Any time there is a major festival they have castellers, correfocs, and giants, so it's definitely something not to miss. I am excited to show you as your new local friend! Please message regarding unmentioned availability options! Feel free to check out my profile for other experiences in the city during your stay! Or message me if you are interested in a private or personalized half/full day tour.

What's included
