What you'll do

We will walk through a lesser known part of the city center, where some of its best kept secrets lie. This is an ideal trip if you are interested in art and history. The three main sights are murals by Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera and Vlady Serge painted inside of churches or public buildings. These are not museums and thus are harder to find. I'm very interested in revolutionary muralists, their lives, political passions and group gossips, and so we will talk a lot about that; how they came to pain what they painted, what they stood for and what it meant for Mexican art. These murals were painted throughout almost five decades, and so they represent very different moments in art history, and are also stylistically very different.

Camilo

I'm a historian, and I'm passionate for Mexico City. After years of living close to the center, walking around the city and looking for its most special and off-the-grid places I would love to share some of my favorite locations, sights and stories. I'm very interested in art, and in particular in the life and times of the revolutionary artists of the 1930's.

Where you'll be

After meeting in front of the San Juan food market, we will go to the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, arguably the smallest and oldest Church in Mexico; then we will head to the Lerdo de Tejada Library, home of the impressive Vlady Serge murals. We will then go to the Parroquia de Jesús de Nazareno, decorated with Orozco's murals. We will finally head to the Education Ministry, which is all covered with Diego Rivera's earliest murals.
