What you'll do

As yoga becomes more common, the essence of the classical practice can get lost in hyper-flexibility and fancy Instagram poses. This class will introduce you to Yoga Nidra (YN), a traditional yoga therapy technique designed to relieve tension in the mind and body. Originally developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati of the venerable Bihar School in Munger, India, YN is practiced in between states of waking and sleep. The practice is suitable for everyone, as it is done in a reclined position on the floor. It is most useful for those suffering from a busy mind, restlessness, doubts or mental fatigue. We will start with a brief and simple practice of classic yoga positions. Then, we follow with a discussion and attempt to develop the ‘seed' of the practice. YN is a method of tending to the seed to optimize growth. Not only about relaxation, this practice also gives you approachable steps to make your dreams come true. You will be given resources to continue the practice at home, too. No prior experience with yoga is necessary; in fact, this might be a good thing, for adding more elixir to too full a cup will just overflow. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Jagadish

I am a graduate of many certified yoga programs throughout the USA and Thailand; I received Kriya Yoga initiation at Ananda Europa in Assisi, Italy in 2017. I was a journalist for years in Washington, DC. The stress in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 drove me to yoga. Since then, I have studied with many notable figures in the American yoga community, mostly out of New York and California. I now teach in Bangkok and lead retreats in Italy every summer. I am registered with the American Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level and certified to give continuing education credits (YACEP).
