What you'll do
Dive in to the heart of Soweto and get real by visiting a community farm / permaculture project and learn about the difficulties and successes of this project and how the community are benefiting from this project directly. We will pick fresh herbs and other ingredients which we will then use as we prepare one of South Africas most loved meals - Potjiekos (Slow Cooked stew in a cast iron pot over fire) along with other meals such as our staple diet food named PAP (Similar to polenta). Learn about the culture and history of Soweto whilst preparing the food and of course the best part - eating what you have prepared. A traditional beer tasting experience (Umqombothi) is also included and is always a highlight and a great photo opportunity.
I am in love with Soweto, the culture and heritage and I love sharing my passion for Soweto with guests. I was born in Pretoria but through more than 10 years in the tourism industry I have become friends with so many people within Soweto that I am considered a local by many. I will be able to show you a side of Soweto that other tourists do not get to experience, interactions with the real locals and you will leave as friends of Soweto instead of tourists.
Meal as prepared by the clients - vegetarian and vegan can be catered for but please advise 24 hours before.
