What you'll do
Our tour starts at Rákóczi Square, the heart of the once-neglected 8th District – now one of the most unique areas in Budapest. Our first stop will be Rákóczi Square Market Hall where your local guide will delve into the history of the neighbourhood. You’ll also be able to get a sense of the district’s truly local vibe, as you wander around snacking on traditional street food. From the market, we’ll meander down the small streets of this fascinating neighbourhood and walk amongst the hauntingly beautiful, crumbling facades on route to Horváth Mihály Square which is the starting point of the whole story of the 8th District. Here we’ll get to see one of the oldest Baroque churches in the city with a stunning interior that we’ll explore together. In the next stop we’ll see how old and new exist shoulder to shoulder, forming the identity of the neighbourhood and telling the story of Budapest. Mátyás Square is next on the agenda, a small square, the heart and soul of the neighbourhood on the brink of regaining its original charm. Towards the end of the tour, we’ll see two completely different but equally important parts of the district: the communist-era housing and the newly built Corvin alley with its brand new facades. Through all this I hope you will get a sense of the unique identity of the 8th district of Budapest.

Livia, Gergő, Fanni And Dóri
Hi, my name is Gergő, it was my idea to create this experience. The reason for that is that I live here and I find it very interesting and exciting at the same time. I know the 8th district inside out since I started to discover it about 7 years ago when I moved here. Since that time an amazing change and development has taken place in a neighbourhood once being pretty dodgy. I studied cultural studies, I am very interested in art and history and this is a place where I can discover something every day. I love the local market where I go often to do my shopping. I also have a few favourites spots where I like to sit and have a good coffee or tea.
