What you'll do
You will be welcomed by Tanya, a free-lance botanist and artist. You will find yourself immersed in an artistic and botanical activity in a spacious and modern home surrounded by nature. You will be guided through the steps involved in observing and drawing plants and will learn about the differences in floral art, botanical art and illustration. We will start with examining materials used in botanical drawing and doing some very basic drawing techniques. We will practice these techniques by observing and drawing leaves. We will examine a variety of flowers and dissect them to understand the component parts. If time permits, we will move on to drawing flowers and stems. In the process, you will learn about the amazing world of plants and how to start drawing them.
I am a botanist and an artist with almost 30 years of teaching experience. I have taught and run workshops in Pakistan, Kenya, USA, Chile and Australia. I teach both botany and art to the general public and can communicate well with a wide range of audiences of different ages. I am a passionate teacher and love sharing my knowledge of plants with others through art and science. I am a hands-on person and find much relaxation and peace in undertaking artistic projects. I have exhibited my quilts and botanical art. My work is held in private collections in Australia and overseas.
