What you'll do

Join me and explore the unique birds that call California home! Whether you are new to birding or it is one of your biggest passions, I can guide you to the habitats where we have a good chance of spotting these interesting and beautiful creatures. Our 4-5 hour morning excursion begins in riparian habitat for passerines and migrant bird species, then on to managed wetlands and open fields, where we will look for grassland birds, shorebirds and ducks. This will give us a broad picture of the ecologically unique birds of northern California.

Learn more about Ellen

Ellen

I've been a bird guide and biologist in many places: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, etc. I've helped citizen science programs, like Breeding Bird Surveys and Christmas Bird Counts, done wildlife population studies and nest monitoring. I’ve traveled around the world for birdwatching (Tanzania, Uganda, Borneo, Belize, Costa Rica, China, Australia, Bonaire, just to name a few, not to mention most of the U.S. and offshore pelagics). I'm very passionate about conservation and ecology, which includes my profession, and love sharing my specialized knowledge with both children and adults. Other birdwatching experiences I host are: Cosumnes River Preserve (http://bit.ly/2KFgVq2) and Gray Lodge Wildlife Management Area (http://bit.ly/2Na9wAZ)

We may also see herons, egrets, Wood Ducks & other water birds. From there, we'll go to the Yolo Bypass, with an auto loop through wetlands with places to walk on foot.
