What you'll do
Through five different experiences you will be immersed in Mexican culture: 1. Come and learn about pre-Hispanic Mexico. While you get to know the richness and diversity of the ancient civilizations, you will learn to cook the sacrificial dish of the Aztecs: pozole. At the same time sample a selection of the finest mezcal in the country. 2. As you make mole and shape the mass of the nixtamal into tamales, you will learn about the encounter of two worlds. We will go through the history of the conquest and the main features of society in New Spain while tasting these delicacies. 3. While discussing the convulsive period that led from the Independence to Porfiriato, you will prepare the traditional and folkloric Torito from Boca del Río, and an imperial dish: chiles en nogada. 4. Through a walking tour of the buildings of the Ciudad de los Palacios and the main cantinas (traditional bars) of the city you will get to know the history of the Mexican Revolution. 5. While you appreciate the colors of “Los tres grandes”: Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros, you will learn how to prepare tortillas and gourmet snacks like guacamole and chapulines, and different flavor margaritas.
"México A Mordidas" is a project committed to bringing people closer to Mexican culture through the creation of experiences and the sharing of knowledge. Daniella and Concepción, the cofounders of this project, are professors at different universities at México City. Both of them are interested in transculturalization processes, Art History and the way culture shapes us, especially in the way food and traditional recipes act as identity shapers in diverse societies. We believe that authentic learning skills develop when all senses are engaged in meaningful activities.
Each class includes supplies and utensils for cooking, recipe, fresh water and different beverages.
Registration for the full course also includes course apron.
