What you'll do

Lisa or Alice's three-hour tour is filled with culinary gems. Many locals have yet to uncover the hidden restaurants, ethnic markets, and mom-and-pop food businesses that make this district so special. * First you'll meet your host in Peace Plaza and sign a liability waiver - get the boring stuff out of the way. * Then you'll hear all about the history of one of only three remaining Japantowns in the United States. * Tastes include a sweet potato latte from The Home of the Sweet Potato Latte, YakiniQ Café * Slurp on handmade ramen soup at a local favorite spot * Savory salads and udon noodle soup from a local specialty Japanese specialty market * Fresh, chewy, mochi handmade daily from Benkyodo, one of Japantown’s first businesses * Onigiri, hand formed rice balls, wrapped with toasted seaweed and filled with salmon and a cup of green tea with toasted brown rice * Okonomiyaki, a Japanese frittata of mixed meat, seafood and vegetables and finally finger licking good Masala dosa with chutneys from DOSA

Lisa

My name is Lisa Rogovin and I created Edible Excursions, a San Francisco award-winning walking food tour company, 15 years ago. I'm passionate about people, history and our amazingly diverse region and how it's had a sweeping effect on the global food movement. I got my start while working for Gourmet Magazine (RIP) taking guests of the Four Seasons Hotel into SF neighborhoods to eat. My tour hosts are food industry professionals who are embedded in the food, people and history of a neighborhood. Either my talented colleague and Japantown resident, Alice, or I will host the Japantown tour.
