What you'll do
Enjoy an exclusive half day exploring the wilderness near Tucson, Arizona on a moderate difficulty hike to view a “secret” cave containing ancient Native American pictographs. During the approximately 3.9 mile trek, you may see wild animals including mule deer, jack rabbits, ground squirrels, a variety of birds and we'll point out numerous plant-life seen only in our Sonoran desert region. About three-quarters of the excursion follows a well-marked trail, but then we’ll cut cross county, initially following a deer trail and then making our own path up the side of a mountain to reach the set of four hidden caves hand carved out of solid rock and undoubtedly used for shelter and protection 600 to 1,000 years ago. We will sit and look out over the panoramic landscape with distant mountain ranges just as the ancient peoples who drew the pictures did.
Tim & Holly
Arizona is full of history with archeological records of native peoples going back thousands of years. In addition, southern Arizona's Sonoran desert contains beautiful plant specimens, some of which only grow here. The concealed caves were shown to me over four years ago only after I promised to insure that they remained a treasure. Since then I have shared my love of history and the beauty of our desert by leading numerous groups of guests on this hike which successfully combines an exploration of local antiquity with regional beauty.
We will provide each person with one gallon of water for personal hydration and a backpack to carry it in.
Where you'll be
The highlight of our excursion will be visiting hidden caves carved out of rock by ancient Americans, one of which contains about a dozen well-preserved pictographs.
