About your host

At least eight generations of my family have been born and brought up in this area. I've grown up with the history and culture as part of my life and my heritage and it's this that I love to share with family, friends and guests to our corner of the world.

What we’ll do

Leaving from the beautiful village of Golspie, we'll climb 396m to the summit of Ben Bhraggie taking in breath-taking views over the Dornoch Firth and beyond. You'll learn local knowledge and hear about the Highland clearances before we get to the summit which has a monument to the Duke of Sutherland, known locally as "The Mannie". There (or a little further down if it's blustery), we'll stop…

What else you should know

Scotland is well known for getting 4 seasons in one day (even in summer) and the weather on a mountain summit is often very different to our start point. Please come prepared and dress sensibly.

What I’ll provide

Food
A locally sourced lunch is provided. Food varies with the seasons but always makes the most of home baking & local suppliers
Drinks
We provide a selection of hot drinks, water and a wee nip of whisky but feel free to take your own if you wish.
Transportation
Collection from your accommodation may be possible by prior arrangement.
Equipment
Basic First Aid kit, hand sanitiser and picnic blanket.

What to bring

Sturdy footwear, waterproofs and outdoor clothing. Layers are always better than one big jacket if possible.

Where you'll be

Golspie is a traditional village, lying in the shadow of Ben Bhraggie. The population is around 1,500 and it is from here that we start our walk. The path up the Ben climbs steeply on the ascent and takes a gentler route on the decent. Returning, we take in the impressive Big Burn gorge walk. The route covers around 9.5km/6 miles and should take 4-6hrs depending on how many photo stops we make and how long we take to enjoy lunch!
