What you'll do
It’s quite overwhelming when walking into the National Gallery. After many visits throughout the years and tailored tours based on the principles taught at my atelier, I will give you a unique angle looking at the visual language of art which is as relevant to artists today as to the old masters. From international old masters such as Titian, Bellini, and Rembrandt, to British masters Gainsborough, Constable, and Hogarth we will delve into their stories and influences that have formed their techniques. We will then move into the impressionist art gallery to explore how the language of paintings is interlinked throughout the ages. For the second half of the tour, we will apply the "new angle" we learnt and do a sketch of one of the paintings highlighting the artistic styles that we have discussed earlier in the tour. This is a fun activity where you get the chance to have pointers from a professional artist. We have all picked up a pencil and doodled at some point in our lives, so don’t feel that you have to be an experienced artist to enjoy this stage in the tour.
I'm the founder and tutor at London Fine Art Studios (LFAS), an art atelier focusing on the craft of painting and drawing. For 20 years I have been teaching oil painting and also give talks and workshops in museums and galleries nationally and internationally. I graduated from Cambridge University in History of Art and modern languages, before moving to Italy to study art full time. The experience will be given by myself or my fellow artist and teacher at LFAS, Sam Clayden. Co-hosts: Sam Clayden

Where you'll be
We will meet in front of the Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery. The tour will start by discovering European paintings then moving onto British artists and finally progressing into the Impressionist gallery. We will then sit in one of the galleries surrounded by British masters and do a quick sketch.
