Swim and Snorkel a reef

Swim and Snorkel a reef

We will meet at the beach and swim 200 yards out to explore a fascinating underwater world. This is usually an easy swim. I will take you to the Shipwreck snorkel trail, an artificial reef. If the water is calm, and everyone is agreeable, there are 2 more reefs further out. The reefs are in 12-18 feet water…

Summer

I work part time as an Occupational Therapist based in Ft Lauderdale, which provides me with lots of free time for my life's passions, which is exploring the wilderness. I am so fortunate to have a reef almost in my backyard that I can swim to right from shore! I love exploring the waterways with kayaks, canoes, sailboats, and swimming. And I never get tired of seeing aquatic life.

Where you'll be

We will be at the famous Shipwreck Snorkel trail dedicated to Jon Michele Cousteau. This artificial reef has an anchor, concrete cannons and a ballast pile. While snorkeling here, I have seen nurse sharks, octopi, squid, angel fish, sea turtles, snappers, yellow tail, a tarpon, and even manatees.
