What you'll do

First we'll make sushi rolls, based on an artistic pattern you select from several designs. When we cut the rolls and the surface appears, you'll find an impressive-looking treat. Next we'll try sushi cake, made by pushing sushi into a special mold. We'll use ingredients available anywhere, but I'll explain some of the special Japanese seasonings we can use as well.

As a certified Sushi Association instructor, I hold sushi workshops twice a month in my Japanese folk-style house. I've also been a tour guide and hospitality specialist for four years, and housed over a dozen students as a host mother.

Where you'll be

We'll be in my home kitchen studio in the Yanesen district, a popular neighborhood that boasts many traditional Japanese temples, museums, and attractions like Ueno Park and a nearby zoo. It's a great place to sightsee and enjoy a leisurely stroll.
