What you'll do
We will start with a quick introduction to the farm and layout, gathered around the picnic table under old Monterey Cypress trees. I will explain some of the history of this land, this area, and why we ended up farming here, as well as quickly talk about what organic farming means. Then we will move into the orchard itself, and wander through the trees rows: walnut, fig, apricot, peaches, plums, persimmons, apricots, apples, pears, cherries, pomegranates, lemons, limes, oranges, kumquats, loquats, and sapote as well as some berries. I will discuss varieties and why we selected them, tending to the trees through the seasons, fertilization, growing good soil and irrigation as well as pest management. On the way down from the orchard, we will visit the flower field and stop to literally smell the roses, while discussing flower horticulture and care of all the species: roses, peonies, hypericum, butterfly bushes, proteas, and more. Finally, we will gather back at the picnic area for a cool beverage and samples of what is in season. I am happy to answer any questions about farming and gardening at this and any time during the tour.
Visit, tour and taste an organic fruit and flower farm in the scenic Pajaro Valley. Birdsong Orchards is a 5 year old farm, focusing on diversity and the health of the land, growing over 175 kinds of fruit trees as well as roses, peonies, dahlias and many other cut flowers. As one of the owners and founders, I will guide you through our orchards and flower field, explaining how to grow organic fruit trees and flowers, tasting whatever is currently in season, and answering any questions you might have. Oh, and did I mention, we also have llamas, mini goats, chickens and farm cats?

Where you'll be
Birdsong Orchards was founded in 2013 to turn an old 8 acre fallow farm into organic production. This land was originally an apple and dairy farm in the 1950s-60s, but went unused since the 1980s. We have planted a permanent fruit tree orchard to the highest organic standards, as well as an accompanying perennial flower field. Our fundamental goal is to nurture the holistic health of this land to encourage biodiversity while feeding our community
