What you'll do
Democracy Trail: Take part in a unique tourist experience in Athens. Enjoy all the major landmarks and classical monuments of Athens, under the expert guidance of a political scientist, who focuses on the history of democracy. Get to know all the tourist attractions in the city center of Athens while walking around the metropolitan center and learning about the history of democracy. The tour will include full details of the monuments with the added info of how these places helped bring about the birth of democracy, and what was happening in these places during the time of the ancient Athenian democracy. The tour will be an enjoyable two-hour walk, where we will witness first hand the birth and evolution of democracy through the landmarks, moving from one monument to the other and tying everything together in our understanding of this historically important city. The participants will get a firm grasp, of when, how and why democracy was born in Athens, how did it work and what where its greatest achievements. At the same time they will get to visit all the must-see locations in the city. The tour will begin in Syntagma Square and will end at the Acropolis museum.
I'm a political scientist with two master's degrees. My focus is on issues of Greek culture, history and democratic heritage. I have published two books and numerous newspaper publications on the ancient Athenian Democracy. I am considered an expert on the history of democracy and how it evolved in the ancient world, and I have been giving speeches and lectures on these issues, across the world. 1 year ago I began leading walking tours in Athens, presenting all the major monuments and landmarks in a tourist product that I call Democracy Trail. Where you'll be
We will be visiting all the different important points and landmarks that tell us the story of how democracy was born in Athens and how did it work through them: Choragic Monument of Lysicrates Kerameikos: The Ancient Cemetery of Athens The ancient Agora of Athens The Pnyx Hill The Areopagus Hill Odeon of Herodes Atticus and will be finishing up just outside the Acropolis Museum.
