About your host

As cofounder of London's Urban Bees, I show people how bees can thrive in cities with a little help from us. I'm also a Guardian journalist, bee author, and creator of the King's Cross Bee Trail app.

What we’ll do

We'll discover hidden green spaces where bees are living amid tower blocks and concrete. We'll visit bee hives tucked away from the gaze of city dwellers, where we'll learn about honeybees and many other bees that have made London their home. We'll have a chance to help the bees by planting bee-friendly flower seeds. And we'll taste delicious honeys from a variety of hives across the capital.

What else you should know

Please bring suitable footwear for walking that could get muddy, and warm and waterproof clothes. There are plenty of places to buy coffee and food along our route. Children are welcome with an adult.

What I’ll provide

Equipment
Materials Materials to make seed bombs and grow flowers for bees, honeys to taste, a bee-friendly plant list and goody bag to take away

Where you'll be

We'll walk over the canal to Granary Square and through new public spaces and gardens that have been created for people and wildlife to show how a new development can provide year-round food to feed the bees. We'll finish our bee spotting at the Skip Garden, an upcycled kitchen garden and cafe on the edge of the King's Cross development where fruit and vegetables are grown in skips and are pollinated by on-site bees who also make honey.
