What you'll do

Meet at Cape Town's oldest building: at the gateway to the Castle of Good Hope. After a quick scene setting, starting with South Africa's First People, we’ll walk to sites of power, protest and beauty: City Hall, slave quarters, Parliament, commercial centres and anti-apartheid strongholds. You’ll experience the city's first grid, quirky building features, hidden gems, public art and Apartheid's legacy. We’ll pop into some buildings, where tourists don't usually go. By the end you'll have a good sense of Cape Town's centre, development and diversity.

Kate

I'm the founder of Culture Connect SA and gave up being an arts and education fundraiser, to be a Cape Town guide. I did my BA Hons in Art History in the UK and worked in London's art world for 20 years. Then I married a South African architect and we moved to Cape Town in 2010. I curate arts, heritage and design tours open to the public. These give me insights, delights and ideas to share on my Airbnb experiences.

Where you'll be

Enjoy Cape Town through its creativity, commerce and challenges: Bo-Kaap's brightly coloured houses and mosques; tall buildings on what was once the sea; micro-enterprises to multi-nationals; areas of Apartheid's forced removals; monumental sculpture, pubic spaces and architectural statements from 17th century to today.
