Architectural Sketching

Duration:3 hours total
Includes:Food, Drinks and Equipment
Languages:Offered in English

About your host

I'm an architect and have been drawing in pencil, ink and watercolor for many years. I love the rich texture of historical buildings and the opportunity for detailed observation that drawing brings. Drawing isn't about recording every detail, just the details that are interesting. Toronto's Distillery District has a lot of hidden delights to the eye and good coffee (or beer) is never far.

What we’ll do

In an age of instant access to photography, why do we draw and how do we learn to draw? What purpose does drawing serve? The pencil is a remarkably adaptable tool, inexpensive and ever ready. Paper is also at hand and yet we rarely put them together to make pictures of what we've seen and where we've been. We'll look at the fundamentals of sketching architecture from life using thumbnail…

What else you should know

Dress for the weather and bring an artist quality pencil sketchbook (around 8 1/2" x 11" - 20cm x 30cm). A tripod stool could be useful although we can usually find places to sit.
