What you'll do
I will begin with an introduction to the farm and the history of this 8th generation holding. I will start with the milking parlour, explaining how it all works and you will see the milking in process where you can get upclose and personal with the cows. I will explain about the different breeds of cows, while showing you the calving pens, the calves and if the timing is right you will see the calves being fed. I will bring you around the farm then, showing you the sheds where they stay for the winter, while explaining about the bedding and the process of feeding and cleaning them out over the winter time. I will bring you then to see the "Hentel" where our poultry and ducks live. We will check their feed and water and of course collect any yummy eggs which you will be allowed have for tea or breakfast. Depending on the time of year, I will show you the pigs in the sty and explain about them. Then I will show you the organic garden, where we produce our own fruit and vegetables, again we can harvest some for yourself!

I have grown up on the dairy farm here at The Dairy Lodge, where I have also been hosting guests for the past three years and been giving these farm tours. They have become a massive part of our hosting and guests have given us fantastic reviews about the tours on the farm. I recently completed a two year college certificate in farm management and agriculture, so I have gained more information and knowledge to help explain to guests about the process of dairy farming here in Ireland. So together with 37 years of farming, there isn't much I don't know on the subject!
We have some wellington boots you are free to use
Where you'll be
The farm tour and your stay will be on our dairy farm at the foot hills of the Ballyhoura mountains. You will stay in the Dairy Lodge for the night before the tour, or after the tour - we can arrange the time of the tour to suit your schedule and arrival time. Preferably at 5pm or 7am as this is the time of the milking, which we would love to show on the tour
