What you'll do
This walk follows government guidelines on combating covid to ensure guest safety.
We will walk around quiet backstreets from Westminster to Vauxhall. Over two hours we will visit a Georgian cathedral town and pleasure garden, a Victorian penal port and graveyard, a Bronze Age port and religious site, and a 21st-century city that is still under construction. You will be immersed in different historical periods and will hear about lots of gossip and scandal. This walk actively encourages your participation. This walk can best be regarded as an open-air seminar where I facilitate a greater understanding of how class and money operate in English culture.
Other things to note
Bring sensible walking shoes and rainwear—this is an all-weather walk. I will provide hand sanitiser.

I am a Londoner who teaches history up to university level. I am a qualified City of Westminster tour guide who runs two other experiences, Discover Hidden Sites with an Historian. Airbnb.com/experiences/156182 and Investigate Travel with a Historian Airbnb.com/experiences/214034. I am also passionate about my neighborhood and English culture because what previous generations leave behind shapes our lives now.
Where you'll be
We’ll start outside the QEII—the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster. We’ll visit Georgian Westminster, Victorian Pimlico, the Bronze Age Thames, and futuristic Nine Elms. We’ll finish at Vauxhall Station.

Given the vast history of the city, it might be worth coming up with more topical content, because the whole thing felt like a haphazard urban walk. The “historical” sites were opportunistic based on the location but weren’t really significant in the overall history of the city, nor was there a sense of a timeline.
Pick a topic or an era and go with it. Don’t end in Vauxhall. That too was opportunistic, as it is the tour guide’s own neighborhood but not in any way historically significant relevant to other parts of town.

The history walk with Terry was a wonderful experience. He is a very personable guy, interesting, welcoming and above all passionate about his subject area. He pitches it to your level and knows how to ‘spin a yarn’.
We’d highly recommend to anyone with an interest in getting to know about London & about history. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you so much Terry! :)

Worth every penny! Terry really made the experience exceptional and I was very surprised at how he was able to flex his tour based on my own understanding. Took the time to thoughtfully talk through any questions that I had and I felt like it was more a conversation with a friend. Overall great experience!

Terry was welcoming and seemed genuinely interested in who we were. The tour was engaging and informative. The time flew past so quickly as we were really enjoying ourselves. I’ll be booking another experience with Terry for certain next time we visit London.

Great tour! Insights into a part of London that you don’t normally get - better/deeper understanding of London history. Terry is personable, asks you questions, and gives you a deeper understanding of how history fits together to make London special. He was able to answer and expand upon our questions - very knowledgeable. Two hours well spent!
