What you'll do

A workshop to discover the old fashion woodcut techniques of Japanese Master such as Hokusai, Hiroshige and Utamaro. A first glimpse to learn the basics of engraving, inking and hand print woodblock. All participant will have his own Japanese print as souvenir of this special printing experience! We will make a personalized print for each participant using only completely natural materials, no any solvent or acid. You will manually carve, ink and print each woodblock (one per color) The little print tool “Baren” allows you to practice the technique easily even at home having a table available. Workshop Structure Very brief illustration of the historical aspects of the technique. Explanatory demonstration of engraving and printing. Study of drawing and application to woodblocks. The engraving tools: knife and more! Cut and carve the woodblocks. The ke ti and its use. Inking and polychrome printing. HOW TO: sharpe the knife All specific materials and tools are fully provided or made available by me Various types of knives and tools for carving Woodblocks Various Baren (tool used to print) Nori rice glue medium Brushes to inking the matrices Drawing pencils and sketch paper Color

I’m an artist passionate on Japanese woodblock printmaking. In 1992 I knew Ligustro Giovanni Berio’s , the best Italian master of Japanese printmaking, in Japan he was considered the reincarnation of Hokusai ! After a 5 years daily visit of his art Atelier, Ligustro accepted to teach me Traditional Japanese Moku hanga woodcut print, I became his collaborator, he give me my first art name “Hellory”, since 2009 I was his official printer. My love for this astonishing technique is growing, my mission: make people discover and fall in love of Japanese traditional printmaking woodcut! Do it!

Where you'll be

We will work at my art studio in Imperia or at the art gallery, in the earth of my little and beautiful village. Near to the sea, a perfect location for a relaxing experience
