What you'll do
We'll start with refreshments and a tour of our small "beyond-organic" farm and greenhouse. You will see permaculture principles in action in our planting style and earthworks. Depending on the task at hand for the day we will make seed starting mix and start seeds, transplant baby plants outside, or harvest veggies. Every activity will be accompanied by explanations as to why we do what we do and plenty of time for one-on-one questions and answers. We will also demonstrate techniques and tips of how to preserve extra produce for storage. We will feed you lots of snacks from the garden and you will take home some produce, seeds, baby plants, or preserves, along with inspiration and information on starting your own garden or planter box at home! Join us throughout the seasons to follow the progress of the seeds you start as they grow into delicious food!
My husband, Matt, and I started our tiny farm in 2015 because we are passionate about delicious food and where it comes from and we wanted to learn how to grow our own food. Matt was a fine-dining chef in San Francisco for 10 years, and I studied food culture in Italy after retiring from my previous career as a ballerina with the San Francisco Ballet. For me good food is important not only for taste but also for the health of our bodies, our communities, our ecosystems. We grow produce that is beyond organic and inspired by permaculture and we love sharing what we have learned with visitors.
