What you'll do

After our meet up and introductions, we will dive right into the history of the Philippines! We'll start at with the Oldest Stone Church in the whole archipelago and learn the backstories on how and why the Spanish even made it to this side of the world. We'll also learn what everlasting marks they left in the more than 300 years of their occupation. Next, we cross the street and enter an expertly recreated 19th century aristocrat's home and marvel at the furniture, furnishings and designs that came about with the combined influence of east and west. We then make our way towards a rarely visited part of the actual historic walls of Intramuros and try to glimpse at its wondrous past. Then we go to another museum that will give us further insight to the old city of Intramuros and its intertwined history with the catholic church. We continue on with walking through the old narrow streets and make a quick stop at a WW2 memorial where we learn about the Philippines and its role in this conflict. Another quick stop at the Cathedral that represents the seat of the Catholic Church in the Philippines Then we learn about the Filipino's fight for independence at the old military garrison. Join me on this adventure through the old city of Manila as we take routes less traveled and discover wonderful corners and side streets very few get to see.

Hello! My name is Jian. I'm the senior storyteller at Explore Manila Tours. Because I am passionate and proud of my Filipino heritage I love creating authentic experiences for visitors who want to explore Manila with me. As co-founder of this Manila-based tour and events company, I am focused on curating activities that are warm, authentic and meaningful. My mission is to change the "Don't go to Manila. Go to the Beaches" mindset. Sure, Philippine beaches are fantastic. But Manila is a terrific urban destination bursting with food, culture and history. Join me and we'll take a dive deep into the heart and soul of Manila, Pearl of the Orient. This is 1 of 3 experiences I offer here on AirBnb.
