What you'll do

You will join me for a day of weaving at Chautauqua Artisans Market. We will begin by selecting yarns from a wide variety of color and texture in my shop, Fall River Fibers. Then, you will go through the process of warping a rigid heddle loom and be taught tips and tricks for weaving a scarf. You will have an hour to take a lunch break on your own at a nearby local restaurant and stretch your legs on the beautiful river walk just outside the door of our classroom. After lunch, you will continue weaving, perhaps trying a lace technique or two. The scarf should be finished around 4:00 PM. You'll have a lovely new accessory for yourself or someone you know.

What's included

Drinks
Coffee, water, and tea selections as well as a light snack will be available throughout the day.
Equipment
All yarns, quality commercial rigid heddle looms and equipment for creating a scarf will be provided for use during weaving. …

Terry

I teach a variety of fiber arts in Hot Springs through my shop, Fall River Fibers. I have been creating with fibers since I was a child. Weaving, spinning and felting have been my main fiber interests for the past 25 years. I have taken many classes related to these crafts including an intense six month weaving apprenticeship and believe it is important to share my knowledge with others to keep these traditional arts and their skills alive and thriving while helping people disengage from technology and explore fibers in a hands-on way. 20 years as a public school teacher has given me the tools to help others, of mixed ability levels, continue their journey as life-long learners. I have shared my work in several galleries and shows; and some pieces have received awards and recognition.

Where you'll be

You'll visit Fall River Fibers, a lovely shop full of yarns and tools for enjoying the fiber arts. There you will make your selection of materials to use in your weaving project. We'll then go next door to the classroom located in Chautauqua Artisans Market, where you will have time to be inspired by the variety of colors and mediums offered by over 40 of artists. Suggestions will be made for several quaint lunch spots nearby.

More tips

This is a beginning weaving class, perfect for those who would love a day with fiber. Dressing the loom does take patience and finger dexterity. Once the loom is ready, weaving is a breeze and the new scarf develops quickly.
