What you'll do

Known for being a difficult medium, Danielle Festa will introduce techniques that take the fear out of watercolor painting. This course is designed for both seasoned artists who have an interest in exploring new methods and those who have never picked up a brush.

We will be painting the beautiful Cocheco River as it winds around the historic Washington Street Mills at Henry Law Park. Before we start to paint the landscape before us, Danielle will introduce 8 basic techniques to make working with watercolors easier. She will also present examples to show how the techniques have been used by other artists.

All materials will be supplied along with refreshing Iced Tea Seltzer or Lemonade while we work. Danielle will be happy to share her knowledge of the history of Dover as well.

Leave with a better understanding of watercolors, new connections and a finished painting!

I have been working as a professional artist since graduating with my BFA in 2007. Using my maiden name, Danielle Festa, I have exhibited at over 50 galleries the New England area, around the U.S. and as far as Oslo, Norway. I have lived in Dover and worked out my studio in the Washington Street Mills for the last 5 years.

I enjoy sharing the lessons I've learned from the talented professors who taught me how to work with watercolor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and at Lorenzo de' Medici University in Florence, Italy.

Although my body of work is primarily focused on oil paint and textiles, I often start each work with a watercolor study. Much of my commissioned work is done in watercolor as well. It is a joyful medium that can be completed in one sitting and in any location. I love teaching these techniques in workshops.

Where you'll be

Enjoy listening to the peaceful Cochecho river snaking around the historic Washington Street Mills at Henry Law Park. Cochecho is an Abenaki word believed to mean "rapid foaming water," referring to the river's falls in downtown Dover. Danielle will have chairs and small tables set up on the landscaped grassy area, ready to leisurely learn watercolor techniques.
