What you'll do
My hometown of Sligo is the vibrant heart of the North West of Ireland and the biggest town in the region. Built on the banks of the Garavogue River it connects Lough Gill to the Atlantic Ocean and boasts the magnificent backdrop of Benbulben Mountain. The town has an interesting history and had a busy port in the nineteenth century. Its scenery inspired the poet W.B. Yeats and his ancestors were prosperous ship owners. We'll start by the Riverside in Sligo town and I'll tell you stories of breweries and what life was like for people living in this area in the past. We'll visit an old Victorian jail, hear stories of some of the prisoners and executions that took place at the jail. We'll walk to the town centre where dark tales of a medieval abbey and the town's graveyard are recounted.
