The Summer Kitchen is a restored building on our historic farm place. This open concept space, has a kitchen with gas stove, and bottled water. Nestled along the edge of the farm yard and a wooded area. This off the grid space, has a camp propane heated shower, and composting boat toilet. A farm experience allows guests to help feed chickens, gather eggs, feed calves, garden and pet the horse. A trail in the woods is great for exploring. Fire pit and seating near summer kitchen.
“I stayed at the Summer Kitchen during a week-long course at nearby Lac qui Parle State Park. It was the perfect place for me come back to after class! It is very spacious and open, with plenty of windows for light and air. The week I was there, the temperatures during the day were in the high 80s, but the sleeping loft was comforable becase of high ceilings, huge window and and ceiling fan. The kitchen had everything I needed. If you're planning to come with several people, you might want to bring a cooler for some things, since the refrigerator is dorm-size. I had great reception for my mobile phone and was able to use it as a hotspot for internet access when I was working on a class assignment. The hosts Amy and David are very responsive to any questions or needs. For example, one evening I had a problem with water pressure in the kitchen. David diagnosed and fixed the problem within about 10 minutes. Amy is a passionate and enthusiastic expert on the prairie biome of this beautiful area. Ask her stuff! Don't miss looking at constellations in the dark night sky, visiting Lac qui Parle State Park, and noshing at Talking Waters brewery in Montevideo (closed Monday & Tuesday).”
Newly remodeled 1930s family home in quiet part of town.
“Gary was an attentive host, I didn't need much and mostly kept to myself while I was in his home. Communication was great, he checked in with me every day to ensure my needs were met and to make sure any questions or concerns I may have were addressed. Any amenity I could have needed was available, and I was pleased with my accommodations and the price point. For my needs basic needs - a warm bed, bathroom, and shower for a few days - this was perfect.”
