It all starts with a message, whether you’re a guest who has a question about a listing or a host who wants to share information about your home, service, or experience. You’ll just need to be logged in to your Airbnb account first to read or send messages in the Airbnb app or website.
Your Messages will help you keep your communication organized for all your trips. Every reservation automatically creates a group thread where all bookers, co-travellers, hosts, and co-hosts can connect.
Just click on a message thread to read an existing message or send a new one. By default, read receipts are enabled for all messages on Airbnb to help keep communication between guests and hosts transparent.
If you’re a host, just go to your Messages and click on a message thread to read an existing message or send a new one.
If you’re hosting an experience and need to chat with a guest privately, you have that option. Just head to Details and click or tap the messaging icon next to their name under Who’s going.
Guests can message a host before a reservation, after a trip is confirmed, or after the trip is completed. They can always find their message threads by going to Messages.
Need to get in contact with the host of an experience? You can contact them privately by heading to Details and tapping or clicking Message host(s).
You can filter, search, and archive your messages to stay on top of your conversations. Made a mistake? You can edit a message within 15 minutes after sending it, or unsend your message up to 24 hours after it’s sent.
Guests and hosts can reply directly to specific messages anywhere in the thread, so it’s easier to keep track of responses as conversations grow busier.
Guests and hosts are limited to 25 messages within any 24-hour period or 10 messages per hour. They’ll see an error message if they’ve reached their message limit.
If a message makes you feel uncomfortable or someone tries to get you to pay outside Airbnb, click or tap the flag or three dots next to the message and select report this message to let us know.
