Airbnb’s commitment to accessibility & disability inclusion

Accessibility on our website and app

We demonstrate our commitment to the digital accessibility of our website and app in three core ways:

  • Cross-functional dedicated teams of engineers, designers, and technical program managers that focus on building products that everyone can use
  • Efforts to follow standards of development laid out by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • Research conducted with people with accessibility needs whose expertise and lived experiences influence product developments and improvements

Stays with accessibility features

Hosts can highlight accessibility features of their home and provide guests with critical information that enables guests to make informed decisions about whether a listing is suitable for them.

Accessibility features include options like step-free access to the home and various rooms, doorway widths wider than 32” (81 cm), and additional bathroom adaptations like a step-free shower, shower seat, or grab bars. Hosts who add accessibility features to their listing are required to upload at least one photo per feature, which is then manually reviewed by our team to meet our guidelines.

Guests have the option to filter search results by any combination of the accessibility features. Guests can also browse the Adapted category, a collection of unique homes with verified accessibility features like step-free access to the home and at least one bedroom and bathroom, plus an additional adaptation in the bathroom.

Experiences with accessibility features

Hosts can highlight a variety of mobility, communication, and sensory-related features of their experience that may enable the participation of guests with accessibility needs.

From the physical accessibility of the location, to whether sign language communication is an option, to whether guests have access to a quiet retreat space, these features communicate valuable information to guests that informs their booking decision. Any features added require a detailed description from the Host that meets Airbnb’s guidelines. Hosts can also opt in to allow individuals supporting guests with disabilities to join an experience at no additional cost with our Access Provider pricing.

Similar to Stays, guests can filter their search results by accessibility features to find an Experience that works for them.

Service animals

A Host is required to accept a service animal (even if they don't allow pets), except for limited health and safety reasons. Learn more about our service animal policy.

Nondiscrimination Policy

Airbnb’s community is built on the principles of inclusion and respect, and we don't support discrimination of any kind in line with our Nondiscrimination Policy. Hosts cannot discriminate or reject a guest on the basis of their disability. Please report any kind of discrimination experienced on Airbnb.
