My two bedroom tree house (Bungalow) sits on top of a huge Banyan tree. From the balcony you can see the impressive Yasur Volcano and at night the red glow of the frequent eruptions light up the skyline in spectacular visual display of nature’s unbridled power (eruptions occur about every 20 minutes). Your visit and overnight stay will truly be the unforgettable experience of a life time. My tree house can accommodate four in two bedrooms (double and two single beds).
“We had a great stay with Tom. At first we planned to stay for 3 days but we ended up staying whole 7 day in his lovely treehouse. The house is located 8 m above the ground in the middle of the joungle with amazing view on the vulcano. We spent every evening on the balcony starying on a red glow and experiencing vibrations coming from the eruptions. Tom's wife prepared very generous meals for us, everyday we had something different made out of organic local products. One of the biggest highlights of this place is its location in the walking distance to all major atractions on the eastside of the island -mt Yasur (10 min), port resolution (1,5hr), shark bay (1hr), hot springs (1,5hr), waterfall (2hr). Last but not least there are no words to describe Tom's hospitality. He will suggest what shall you do, organise your time and transport always with an honest smile on his face. If you are not a resort-type person and would like to stay in a remote accomodation with locals do not hesitate and book your stay with Tom.”
Welcome to Lounapkamei, in the heart of Tanna! Be an honored guest in our village, staying in Vanuatu's one and only "Wil Tan Nima" or "Tyre House" - an eco-friendly earthship cyclone shelter (read more about this in "our story"). This unique accommodation is a special place where you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in authentic village life on Tanna, visit and play in Vanuatu's biggest banyan tree and be captivated by our vibrant culture in our very own village Toka Dance tour.
“Joe, Thomas and Elodie have created a very special space and opportunity for visitors to experience Tanna island and glimpse life in Lounapkamei village. The earthship residence they have constructed and prepared for guests is clean, well-appointed and tastefully furnished including a beautiful garden and thoughtful amenities, with solar/battery electricity supply and mosquito net. Bottled or boiled water is provided and also available in Lenakel town, where ATM and currency exchange facilities can be found too. We enjoyed the chance to interact with the community and also appreciated the polite and attentive manner of our hosts, their willingness to include us in daily activities without obligation, the local meals prepared for us so nicely, and the friendly hospitality from the whole community. Additionally, from our homestay in this village, Tanna island's many points of interest were within reach and could be conveniently facilitated at reasonable rates by Tokatan Tours, including the Banyan tree, Mt Yasur volcano and unique Toka dance welcome and cultural trail prepared by our hosts early in our visit - an offering that seems unique to Tokatan Tours and was especially fun and educational. We left enriched by our experience in Lounapkamei and grateful to the hosts and residents for embracing our visit so warmly and spiritedly. Thank you for this privilege, and congratulations to Joe and family on such a well-run and sincere operation that allowed us to experience Tanna and what must surely be the best of Vanuatu!”
Best Location offers guests the opportunity to stay in a private bungalow in an authentic Tanna village. Experience local coffee, food, waterfalls, black magic, the volcano and other unforgettable Tanna experiences guided by your friendly host, Rex.
“Overall very good stay with Rex and his family. The place is a bit far from Lenakel but if you are looking for some peace and some true authentic Tanna people, this is the place you want to go. We didn't know what to expect with all the very good and middle comments, but we were finally happy of our choice. Yes Rex is trying to sell his tours and everything but it's his job and thanks to that, it makes live all his family and an entire village... even trying to provide solar panels for schools around, so it's totally normal. The Magic Tour is fun and nice to do because it shows in a funny way their old customs. Yakel Village is not a must do as we felt we didn't have our place there and we had the feeling to be intruders in their lives, but the money can help them... so it's your choice ! The food was very good, a bit expensive (around 800-1200vt for one meal) but you are in the middle of nowhere so if you want the market local food at 500vt, you walk to town ;) The bungalows are true local bungalows so expect wind and harmless spiders sometimes ! The family (Madeleine, Jason, Jennifer, Eric, Rex JR, Marie the best cook and the people around the village) is amazing and there is always someone that comes talking with you ! Thank you again Rex”
