“We arrived late in Kona, then a hiccup getting our rental car... Well a very expensive cab ride later and at least three different people saying where we were going (Rachaelle's Place) is the end of the earth. We liked the end of the earth part. The directions involved counting telephone poles. They were perfect! even the first night, exhausted and frustrated. It's not quite the end of the earth, it is a wonderfully serene, nicely away from everything beautifully decorated place to slow down, enjoy the natural beauty of the big island and Pele's folly, the lava. Rachaelle & Quot were great hosts, going above and beyond. Helping us with any and all problems we encountered, also recommending some of our best outings and helping with sources for provisions, fishing help.... it goes on. The Balinese carved four post bed is a great design element and the most comfortable bed we ever slept on (not just ocean breezes, sounds of nature. This bed is amazing!) The furniture is all super comfy, clean simple designs mixed with interesting Pacific Island inspired carved and wood pieces. We cook a lot (the choices were limited for delivery/taking out food due to COVID restrictions.) their kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed plus some nice bonus items in the pantry beyond the basics. Big Gas stove/oven, full size fridge w/ icemaker, dishwasher all perfect. The lanai has a table and chairs to enjoy The bathroom has his & her sinks plenty of storage big shower lots of hot water and good pressure. Oh and a squatty potty!! Washer, Dryer downstairs, we were there long enough to use 'em, they worked great. Scent & Dye free detergent gratis ( thank you ). Plenty of beach supplies and a cooler. We had an incredible stay and greatly enjoyed sharing time and a meal with our hosts.”

This is old Hawaii.
“I really enjoyed staying at Sean and Zorro’s place. Everything is super clean. Sean is very accommodating and pleasant. His house is walking distance from a cool little place called Uncle Robert’s where there is a fun Wednesday night market place as well as a Saturday morning farmers market. The house is across the street from a lava field which overlooks the ocean. It is mystical and apocalyptic. If I come back to Pahoa I will definitely stay with Sean and Zorro again.”
Welcome to the lovely LAVA HALE located in the unique area of Kalapana Gardens. Enjoy a Once-in-a-Lifetime experience of living on some of the Newest Land on Earth! This special Ohana home is perfect for adventure seekers and nature lovers. The Volcano Plume is still visible from the house! Enjoy DIRECT Volcano views (and glows when Pele is flowing) and warm Tradewinds and Ocean Breezes right from the Lanai. Magical SUNRISE & SUNSET VIEWS, STARGAZING. A unique place you will never forget.
“The Lava Hale was an outstanding choice to stay while on the south side of the island! The home was super clean and well designed for a smaller space. This is off grid living which is wonderful and adds to the wonderment of the lava neighborhood. The area is dark at night and the stars just pop out of the sky like we’ve never seen before. The bed was comfortable and sleeping was nice with the breeze through the windows. The outdoor shower is nice. We had all the comforts of home and wilderness camping in one! The directions were helpful from Sonja and Alex because we arrived after dark. We made it fine, but got lost as we returned in daylight the next day (lol.) The road in is rough, so be prepared, but this too added to the rural quality. Truly a memorable and special place to stay! We wish we had more time here, but we will be back.”
