“Ella Retreat exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Communication was fast and helpful from the point of booking right to the end of the stay from both the host and the retreat manager. The location is within a peaceful and natural area of jungle but only a short tuk-tuk ride from Ella town. The eco cottage is beautifully unique and thoughtfully decorated, even better than the photos! The retreat manager, Kasun, was the kindest man we met in Sri Lanka and provided warmth, humour and outstanding hospitality throughout our 3 night stay, he really did go above and beyond to make this place a home! He also makes a wonderful breakfast, by far the best of all our breakfasts in Sri Lanka! Due to cancellations of bookings because of the pandemic, we were even able to use the glamping tent day-bed to sunbathe and monkey-watch from. We cannot recommend this place enough, you must book! This place needs no improvement, made perfect by Kasun, his tasty breakfasts and the beautiful surroundings and decor of the retreat itself!”
Arawe is a newly renovated 150-year old nature cottage located around 400m from the centre of Ella. The cottage stands on a 5-acre land overlooking a rice paddy field and is the only guest accommodation on the property. It is home to many local birds and creatures and affords a refreshing nature retreat while being within a close distance to all that Ella has to offer.
“Arawe retreat was our favorite place to stay during our two week trip to Sri Lanka. The location (nestled in the tranquil tea fields but still convenient to the Ella strip) is excellent, but the space and hospitality are unbeatable. Bonus: we even got to watch Ishanke work the fields with some villagers and their water buffalo over breakfast. If you are planning a trip to Ella — especially for those taking the train — I strongly recommend you stay with Ishanke at Arawe.”
Ella Panorama Villa | Mountain Heavens Ella Panorama Villa is nestled in the middle of the charismatic village of Ella and is the only hotel located whose view is focused through the legendary Ella Gap that’s located between Little Adam’s Peak and Ella Rock.
“Fernando was the first face we saw when we stepped down from the bus in Kumbalwela (one stop after Bandarawela). He had very kindly offered to fetch us in his van to the villa and we were immensely grateful especially after a very tiring bus ride from Nuwara Eliya. The gorgeous mountain view that greeted us at the villa immediately refreshed our spirits. And it was this glorious view that we see from our bedrooms when we wake up and also as we savoured Fernando’s delicious meals at the dining area. Nine Arches Bridge is a short ten-minute walk from the villa. We only went out once to buy train tickets and ate lunch at the recommended Matey’s Hut and Fernando drove us & waited to fetch us back (at a small fee we were happy to pay). Fernando is really a shout away (or a phonecall away if he’s out buying ingredients for our meals) as he lived in an annex nearby. Communicating with him was easy from the onset, when we booked the villa and throughout our stay. Wifi worked well (may have to reboot the modem in the morning if i hangs). All in all, a wonderful stay at the villa. Special thanks to Fernando, of course :-)”
