“Michail and his dad are really, really great hosts, making my group of 8 people feel extremely welcome. Your plane was delayed for a couple of hours and although our checkin was about at 9 PM, Michal and his dad, Mr. Kostas, were waiting for us with home made Dakos (greek bruschetta), Dolmades (stuffed vine leaves), fruits and last but not least the famous Raki. I must say that the photos are not doing justice to the Villa, being way more beautiful in real life. As stated also in the description the Villa is situated in the heart of the village, close to the tourist attractions but far enough so that we could experience how the locals are living. Every morning (Monday-Saturday) fresh bakery can be bought from the bakery van that is honking right outside the door. The Villa was super clean and the pool was immaculate, being kept sparkling clean by Michail throughout our whole stay. Although this is our second time in Crete, for sure we'll come back just to stay one more time at Villa Cardia.”

“The place we stayed is a small villa on the outskirts of Rethymon, on the way to the historical Arcadi monastery. When we arrived we were amazed by the location and the quality of the lodging. A spacious apartment, tastily furnished, fully equipped, in the middle of an olive grove. It was even better than the description on the internet. The owner was waiting for us at the door (another touch of the famous Cretan hospitality). We did fully enjoy our stay at Villa Lucia and we recommend it enthusiastically to everybody who are planning a stay in Rethymnon.”

“Just returned home from 4 nights at Villa Themis and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was an impromptu trip to Greece that exceeded any expectations we had going in. We were warmly greeted and given a tour upon arrival to the Villa. We were given a sample of Raki and a bottle of locally produced olive oil to use during our stay. We loved the neighboring houses that had goats, chickens and sheep. The goats behind the property had bells on them that we could occasionally hear (very subtle) if the wind was blowing from the right direction. The property had lovely olive trees . The private pool was perfect for our 8 year old daughter! Although the water was a tad chilly, she didn't seem to mind at all. The view from the house and pool was amazing! Loved that we could see the Mediterranean Sea in the distance. We enjoyed drinking our morning coffee and eating our breakfast from the balconies. The kitchen had great amenities and provided a great space for us to cook meals when we were not out exploring the island. We also used the outdoor fire spit to make BBQ chicken. We also utilized the washing machine and hung our clothes outside to dry. Each bedroom was spacious and the outdoor roll down window coverings provided a nice black out sleeping environment. The beds were nice, although a tad too firm for our liking. The location of the Villa was about 30 minutes from the town and beaches of Rethymno. We loved going into the city center and exploring the ruins of the 15th century Venentian Fortress and the many wonderful restaurants in the area. The views from the top of the fortress are amazing, especially at sunset. Lots of shopping in the old harbor area as well. The beaches in Rethymno are nice, great sand and very clear water. We also took a trip to Chania which is about an hour and half away. The road to get there offers spectacular mountain and sea views. We chose to go to Stravos beach which is about 25 minutes north of the city center. The beach is located on a protected cove with a soaring mountainous backdrop. The water was calm and so clear and we loved exploring the tide pools. There are restaurants across the street for a quick beach snack. Note: My husband and daughter both got bit by fish while swimming. They key is to not stand still and keep moving to detract them from nipping at you. We preferred the city center of Rethymno over Chania. Rethymno felt more lively to us, but in a smaller, intimate way than Chania. Just a 5 minute walk down the road from the Villa is the village of Kyriana. We walked there for coffee and to pick up a few groceries at the food mart. The eggs are so fresh and good. The experience of immersing ourselves in the local culture was so great! We ate at two local restaurants, both within a 5 minute drive from the Villa. Farmagi is a beautiful Greek restaurant up the hill from the village. The food was amazing and they also have a great play area for kiddos. The service was so friendly and the menu had English translations. Down the hill from the village is another great restaurant with beautiful views of the olive tree farms and sea. I can't remember the name of it, but it is on the left hand side of the road as you are driving towards Rethymno. They also have a small area for kiddos to play. All in all. we had a very great time! The location is a bit remote, but allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the local Cretan culture. Emmanuel gave us a bottle of his locally farmed olive oil to bring home with us, which was such a sweet gesture. The only negative we had is the constant barking dogs. Most of the neighbors have dogs and it seemed like they would have a barking fest, sadly during the night. Fortunately, I had ear plugs which helped a little. The roosters will wake you up in the morning, but for us it was all part of the fun of being off the beaten path. We loved our time at Villa Themis and would definitely recommend it for families, couples, and friends who are looking to explore the rich culture and history on the island of Crete.”
