Not every neighbourhood envelops an entire country, but Borgo is nearly otherworldly. This crowded-by-day neighbourhood cultivates a soul of its own even as it embraces Vatican City—a pilgrimage destination that offers Borgo a truly universal claim to fame. Most of Borgo's inhabitants are administrative workers, trinket sellers, and officials of the Catholic Church. The serenity that emanates from St. Peter’s Basilica permeates the neighbourhood and leaves little room for retail (other than the souvenir kind) or after-dark entertainment.See places to stay Save this neighbourhood

Airbnb works with local photographers to capture the spirit of neighbourhoods all around the world. The photography on this page includes work by:
Marco Giarracca lives in Rome and works around the world. After four years studying music he took up photography in 2001. His work mainly focuses on interiors, architecture, food, still-life, and portraits. When he’s not working he loves good food, hiking, climbing, travelling, and meeting new people. He was delighted to photograph his beautiful home city for Airbnb.
Pauline Boldt is a freelance photographer and creative director who works globally. She takes pictures of where she is and what is around her. While spending two weeks in Rome photographing for Airbnb, she loved getting to know the historic city intimately. Pauline's current work can be found on her internationally featured blog, 26mertonroad.com.
