Discover London’s scenic Hampstead Heath through the poems and life of John Keats, a poet I’ve dedicated much of my career to exploring. • We’ll start at Keats’ house and walk around his gardens, which are beautifully preserved by the Keats Society. • Next, we’ll venture out onto the Heath, the patch of nature that inspired not only Keats but also T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Francis Bacon, and many other writers and artists. • Finally, we’ll end up at one of Keats’ old haunts: The Flask, a picturesque 1663 pub with a history full of highwaymen, strange initiation rites, and ghosts—in other words, the perfect setting for a poetry workshop. I’ll help you write a poem of your own, inspired by the beauty of the Heath. You’ll leave with your own poetry as well as a zine created to remember your time in Hampstead Heath.

Discover Non-touristy & Secret London with a City Planner

London is only truly experienced when you venture off the well-worn tourist track so that you can see, hear and feel the place the same way a local does. Only then will you get close to the true essence, to the true heart, to the very fabric of the place you are in and have an experience like no other. We are going to leave the touristy mainstream London to the side and explore its unseen and authentic neighbourhoods outside the centre because this is where the ordinary Londoners acutally live their everyday lives. We delve into London's modern and pioneering urban history to understand its current challenges as well as future developments. Despite the length of six hours the tour does not feel too exhausting and time will fly. In between, you can also sit and relax for a bit while we travel by bus and train. My London safari can easily be made weatherproof if you dress warmly enough and bring an umbrella if necessary. Some places are partially covered and in bad or cold weather, the 30-min lunch break can be taken in an indoor market. START: Paddington railway station (West London) FINISH: Canada Water station (East London) or Waterloo railway station (close to Central London). It depends on the order in which we visit the different places. WE MIGHT FINISH 15 MINS LATE IF TRAFFIC IS SLOW. The food is NOT included. The tour is NOT step-free. See you soon! Fabian

Discover London's Canals by Kayak

** AGES 18+ ONLY ** When you arrive at The Pirate Castle, you'll meet your instructor guide and be given a buoyancy aid to put on. We'll then give a short safety talk and show you the basics on how to use your paddle and control your kayak. You'll get into your boat (we'll help if you're wobbly!) and once everyone is on the water we'll practise some basic paddle strokes before heading off on a gentle tour that weaves along the prettiest stretch of the Regent's Canal towards London Zoo, then back to Camden's famous lock and The Pirate Castle. This experience is 1.5 hours long (including kitting up/briefings). All tours depart from/return to The Pirate Castle. The pace and distance travelled will vary for each tour as your instructor guide needs to keep all members of the group together for safety. Novices and more experienced paddlers welcome! Our kayaks are suitable for weights up to 110Kg. Canoes are available for paddlers up to 300Kg or two people wishing to paddle together. Please wear something comfy for kayaking that you don't mind getting splashed. You must also need wear suitable footwear (old trainers or securely fitting sandals). NO SWIMWEAR, FLIP-FLOPS or CROCS! Kayaking is a watersport, so we'll go ahead even if it's raining. We only cancel tours in the event of thunder and lightning due to potential risks, in which case we'll discuss available options.

The Tour will include the memorials of women who have contributed to Literature, Nursing, Royal History, Politics, Campaigners, Women in War Time. We will explore the significance of each woman, as well as mentioning some of the women who do not have memorials in the area, whilst also exploring the history of the memorial, the design and your responses to each memorial as we go along. It is a walking tour that will run in all weather and throughout the year, we hope our guests will walk away from the tour with the knowledge that among the larger London landmarks are memorials to women who changed London's history.

Brutalism for Beginners

We will walk around London in a small, intimate group (6 persons max), visit a great number of sites, learn about concrete and its historic and social significance, and spend time admiring and photographing these at most dramatic angles. Loved by some, loathed by others, the rugged urban fortresses we will be locating are excellent examples of the most influential architectural style of the 60s and the 70's that changed the landscape of our cities forever.. The discourse about the future of brutalist landmarks is as stern and uncompromising as the very buildings it assesses : The ongoing struggle among local authorities, preservation societies, residents associations and royal patronage, can in some cases result in preserved or repurposed landmarks, but also quite often in their demolition and permanent loss. Perceptions about these strangely alluring monolithic structures has varied though the years, and where once Brutalist buildings have been symbols of a futuristic outlook and a modern way of living, they've also gradually become symbols of urban decay, and near totalitarian oppression. A London Literary Pub Crawl - in Soho.

Meet Nick (or writer Richard) in historic Fitzrovia, then take in around a dozen or so pubs and clubs of our tour. It takes about two and a half to three hours - although it can be longer depending on the group - and we end up about a mile away, in Soho, next to The Palace Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue, for an (optional) sing-song around a piano! We look at places frequented by many of the great 19th and 20th century poets and writers, including Charles Dickens, Brendan Behan, Dylan Thomas, Anthony Burgess, George Orwell and Virginia Woolf et al, and a few earlier writers such as Samuel Johnson and William Blake. We see where Dylan Thomas met - and fell instantly in love with - his wife and look at other incidents that inspired some great works. We later include places visited and used by some more modern artists and writers; Paul McCartney: Damien Hurst and Julian Fellows, etc. There are readings along the way. As a current writer, Nick will give you a unique insight into an area of London that changed the world creatively. We don't go into all the pubs because they are busy and we'd get very twisted drinking in all of them (!) but there is plenty of opportunity for breaks. Other things to note The tour is more about the literature than the drinking, although that's up to you! No previous literary knowledge is required. Great for groups, team-building and Xmas!
