Your guide to Orlando
What do locals do in Orlando?
Hang out at Eeloa Park
While visitors are flocking to queue up at the theme parks, this hidden gem continues to sparkle in plain sight. Head over to the Thornton Park district in the middle of downtown to find this man-made lake. Depending on the day you visit, you might find the farmers’ market, concerts, or festivals happening along the pedestrian-only path. A fun weekend idea: rent a pedal boat (shaped like a swan) and cruise around the lake for people watching.
Dine in the Milk District
Orlando has 10 distinct districts, with this one being one of the more up-and-coming of the bunch. The name pays homage to the dairy farmlands that now host boutique shopping and dining east of downtown. Food tours are a fun way to get acquainted with what this district is all about.
Spend the day in Winter Park
Situated just north of Orlando, Winter Park is an outdoors city with an artsy side, especially in places like the 11-acre Central Park hosting year-round events and festivals. Head to the main drag, Park Avenue, for lunch and shopping.
Go paddleboarding on Lake Ivanhoe
Orlando is home to more than 100 lakes, and Lake Ivanhoe welcomes paddleboarders (day and night) with its clear waters. Locals bring their kids and dogs out for a fun core workout, with the added bonus of being able to rent glow-in-the-dark paddleboards for a night glide. Head to Ivanhoe Village before or after your time on the water for good eats and drinks.
What are the best outdoor activities in Orlando?
Some of the most fun, family-friendly ways to explore Orlando and its surroundings is by joining locals to explore the swamps, marshes, rivers, and trails of Central Florida.
Go fishing on the Central Florida waterways
Head out to go fishing for trophy bass with in-the-know locals who love to fish the waterways here. You’ll go to some of the coveted spots for your chance to cast a line.
Paddleboard alongside manatees on St. John’s River
These gentle giants call Central Florida home most of the year, with migratory manatees visiting in the colder months. Local experts take you out on paddleboards and kayaks to see the manatees from a safe distance.
Clear kayak at Rock Springs
Local outdoor lovers guide you on an amazing journey along routes such as the Emerald Cut section of the Rock Springs Run by glass-bottomed kayak to see some of the real natural beauty of Central Florida.
