We ask that you respect that these items are provided for your convenience; so please leave them at the Retreat or feel free to add to them for the use and enjoyment of all future guests. LIVING IN THE RAINFOREST: When you arrive you will find that we have left the cushions to the outdoor settings inside. We don’t like to leave them out as they can get damp depending on the changing weather conditions on the Mountain. Would you kindly bring them in when not being used. When the weather changes and visible mist starts to settle outside over the rainforest, it is necessary to shut the doors and windows otherwise a heavy wetness will settle into the rugs, cushions, fabrics, bed linen and furnishings, and your clothes and food stocks will become damp. This is also a good time to turn in the dehumidifier. EXTRA BLANKETS & TOWELS: There are extra blankets for the bed and extra towels if needed. You will find them on the shelves in the master bedroom wardrobe. GROCERIES & FUEL: Just a reminder that there are no supermarkets or service stations at Springbrook so be sure to bring your own groceries and food and fill up your tank with fuel before venturing up the mountain. There is however a general store on Forestry Road called the Springbrook Cafe & Bar that is open 7 days a week from 9:00AM to 4:00PM and stays open on Fridays until 9:00PM that stocks items such as fresh bread, milk, breakfast cereals, cheeses, meats, crackers, biscuits, sauces, canned foods, sugar, juices, toothbrushes, toothpaste, batteries, beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks. It also has a liquor licence, fully stocked bar and beer on tap. On Fridays, they serve pizza, fish & chips and other fried foods, with the kitchen open between 5:30PM and 8:00PM. PLACES TO DISCOVER: Here on Springbrook Mountain you will find plenty of good walks, waterfalls and swimming holes at your front door and so many places to discover! CAFES & RESTAURANTS: You’ll find it’s mostly Cafes on the mountain as well as a general store and licenced bar. GUIDED TOURS & HIKES: If you’re looking for a private guided tour, walk or hike then get in contact with Kaylene Whitley at Rainforest Tours Australia. M: 0401 607 117 E: W: ABOUT SPRINGBROOK: Springbrook is in the Gold Coast hinterland, just 45 minutes from its famous surf and white sand beaches. "The Mountain" as the locals call it, is part of the ancient Gondwana Rainforests of Australia which, due to its recognition as one of the world's most outstanding and valuable places was, in December 1994, officially declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Area. With its origins going back millions of years, it is home to an amazing variety of wildlife from the rare Albert’s Lyrebird, which is only found in Springbrook, to Crimson Rosellas, Satin Bowerbirds, Lorikeets, Whipbirds, Parrots, Robins, Kookaburras, Koalas and Pademelons. Amidst the rainforests, the plant life is similarly spectacular with many rare, endangered and vulnerable species like the Springbrook Wedding Bush (Ricinocarpos Pinifolius), Tree Waratah (Alloxylon Pinnatum) and Clear Milk Vine (Marsdenia Longiloba). Springbrook a forest wildness; part of an ancient volcano formed 23 million years ago, with views that stretch forever. Our Retreat is situated adjacent to the mountain escarpment called "The Canyon". From here, the views are spectacular. Nestled in the heart of the rainforests, Springbrook is a small, tight-knit, rural community. Between 700 to 1000 meters high at various plateaus, it looks out over a lush green canopy of rainforests to the magnificence of the Gold Coast, it’s golden sand beaches and the blue water horizon of the Pacific Ocean. This is why Springbrook, being the only Rainforest area on the Gold Coast, is called “the Green behind the Gold”. Springbrook is a calm, quiet, relaxing and peaceful location of exquisite beauty. It is truly a very special place, populated by an eclectic mix of naturalists, botanists, environmentalists, farmers, doctors, lawyers, barristers, academics, musicians, artists, writers, generational families, young families, spiritualists, alternative lifestylers, retirees, bushwalkers and increasingly, by people seeking a slice of serene paradise in an ever-increasing fast, busy, noisy and stressful world. Set within the World Heritage Listed Springbrook National Park, Springbrook is also home to cool mountain streams, gorges and waterfalls as well as majestic tall trees, palms, ferns and other plants that can only to be found in Australian Rainforests. Three interesting facts about Springbrook. Fact 1: It is the most extensive area of subtropical rainforests in the World. Fact 2: Few places on Earth contain as many plants and animals that still remain relatively unchanged from their fossilised ancestors. Fact 3: Many of Springbrook’s waterfalls, picnic areas and lookouts bare the original names handed down by the Yugambeh Aboriginal people, the first human inhabitants of the area who thousands of years ago recognised the sacred nature of these ancient lands. Access to Springbrook National Park is via either Pine Creek Road or the Gold Coast-Springbrook Road from Mudgeeraba. Cabin in Whian Whian
Escape to a Logger's Cabin in the Byron Hinterland
Nightcap Ridge is a private 67 acre property in the Nightcap National Park. This unique oasis provides beautiful lawns, walks, water holes and unspoilt nature. The well appointed cottage delivers the comforts for a perfect getaway. The property is within a few kilometres of Minyon Falls. This means that high energy use electrical items such as electric heaters, electric toasters, hair dryers and so on cannot be used without exhausting the supply of electricity to run more needed appliances. The solar system does run an electric fridge, the lights, the digital TV and Blu-ray player. The slow combustion wood fired stove is also used to heat the cabin. There is a backup gas heater. Water to the cabin is high quality filtered creek water and tank rain water. Maximum of 10GB per stay for $40.* Guests will have access to the grounds of the complete 67 acre property. Nightcap Ridge has many spots to explore including The Lily Ponds, The Dam, Boomerang Creek and multiple bush walks. We're here to make your stay at Nightcap Ridge a memorable one. Should you require any further information please to not hesitate to ask. The cabin is on Nightcap Ridge, a private 67-acre property in the Nightcap National Park. It's an oasis of beautiful lawns, walks, water holes, and unspoilt nature. The property is 350 to 400 metres above sea level and is at a junction of two climatic zones - sub tropical and warm temperate. The climate is milder than areas on the coastal plain. It has a high rainfall of about 1800mm per year leading to lush green surroundings. In Autumn you can expect minimum temperatures at night and in the early morning to fall to around 10C. Day temperatures are usually in the mid 20sC. It is a very pleasant time of the year. Spring is similar, but can be drier. In Winter the minimum temperatures at night and in the early morning can fall to around 5C - occasionally to 0C. Daytime winter temperatures are in the high teens and low 20sC. Very pleasant - but you will need a good jumper/pullover/cardigan at least in the morning and at night and - yes - warm pyjamas, socks and slippers. By using the slow combustion fuel stove, the cottage remains warm and inviting. In Summer minimum temperatures are in the high teens or low 20sC. During the day the temperatures mostly are in the high 20sC to low 30sC, but can occasionally be higher. The cottage is insulated and by using the large opening French doors and the louvre windows the cabin remains very pleasant. You can also cool off in the creek or dams.
