How to select and add high-quality photos

Provide a variety, keep it authentic, and capture the magic.

Guests often rely on photos to decide what to book on Airbnb. The photos of your experience should grab attention, set clear expectations, and create excitement.

Focusing on quality

Every photo you share should be high quality. Each image should have a resolution of 800 x 1,200 pixels and a file size of up to 10 megabytes. You can get these results with most smartphone cameras.

Submit photos that are:

  • Taken by you or used with permission
  • In colour, not black and white
  • Well lit, preferably by natural light
  • Simple in composition and background
  • Focused, with the main subject at the centre
  • A mix of close-up details and broader compositions

Do not submit photos that are:

  • Dark or use extreme flash
  • Blurry, grainy, or low resolution
  • Heavily edited, filtered, or distorted
  • Selfies or posed pictures
  • Collages
  • Multiple versions of the same photo
  • Of logos or brands

If you need more photos, consider asking friends or family to take pictures with these tips in mind. Or ask guests to share their best photos and give you permission to use them on your listing.

Adding great images

Submit five or more photos—as many as you need to spark interest and set clear expectations.

Photos are displayed in three places on experience listings: the grid, your itinerary, and a photo gallery. You’ll also choose an eye-catching cover photo, which guests see in search results on Airbnb.

We’ll review the photos you submit and approve images that meet our standards. Here’s what you should submit for each section.

The four photos in the grid show guests, the host, an important detail, and the location.

The grid. Four photos at the top of your listing make up what’s called the grid. Include photos of:

  • Guests participating in the main activity
  • You leading the experience
  • An important detail, such as a close-up of gear or an ingredient
  • The location, like a wide-angle shot that establishes the setting

Itinerary photos should focus on one detail or person, with a plain background.

Your itinerary. Your itinerary is a short agenda that helps guests decide if the experience is a good fit. Itinerary photos are small, so choose simple scenes with plain backgrounds. Include photos of:

  • Moments that match your written descriptions
  • People, objects, and other details that are easy to understand

Photo gallery. Guests can view all the images you share in a photo gallery. Your gallery should demonstrate what makes the experience compelling and memorable. Include photos of:

  • Guests interacting with you, any co-hosts, and other guests
  • The activities captured from different angles, including guests’ perspectives
  • Any items that guests can expect to take home as a keepsake

Make sure you have permission to use any photos you submit, and that the images accurately reflect the experience.

All hosts, photos, and listing details must meet the standards and requirements for Airbnb Experiences.
