Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Hands On With Magical Miniature Horses
We will meet for a short orientation while you enjoy a welcoming coffee or cold drink. We will then introduce you to "the herd" and select a few horses to demo how to approach them, halter and lead them, groom them. You will then be helped to choose your own horse for the day. If the weather is cooperative, we can go for a short trail walk and perhaps see some of the wildlife who seem to be more comfortable and come closer when we humans are attached to a horse! Q and A is ongoing. All questions are welcome, and we will make every effort to gear the experience to the guests' individual interests. Some may simply want the 'therapy value' of touching and communicating. Some may want information on how we care for the horses. Some may want a demo on how we show them in competition. Energetic guests may want to take a horse over a set of appropriately scaled jumps or obstacles. All can be arranged, and everyone in the group can do something different, as long as I can maintain my ability to be six places at once. It's a talent. We can also provide a special occasion for any age guest and his or her celebrants, with appropriate refreshments that you bring along or order here. Other things to note Please dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toe shoes, please. Sunscreen and bug repellent are handy seasonally. THE MAGICAL MINIS EXPERIENCE MAKES A FABULOUS, ONE OF A KIND GIFT!

  • Sail on the Schooner Fame of Salem
Haul up the sails! Take the tiller! Or just chill out with a Rum Punch or Deacon Stormy while our historic schooner slides through Salem Sound past lighthouses, forts, and waterfront homes. The captain and crew will explain the significance of the FAME, privateering, and the War of 1812. The firing of the cannon is always a highlight! We'll motor out from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem and then call for volunteers to help raise the sails. Once the sails are up, depending on the wind, we may shape a course toward Beverly... or Marblehead... or head straight out toward the islands! Our interactive crew point out landmarks, explain the operation of the schooner, and mix drinks with equal facility! The sails last roughly an hour and forty-five minutes. When we return to Pickering Wharf, you're right in the heart of downtown Salem — perfectly placed for a meal, a drink, or a stroll! Other things to note We will not sail if steady rain, high winds, or thick fog are expected. Call ahead if you are unsure about the weather. Dress for the weather — you are exposed to the elements on our 1812 schooner! This is not a cruise ship or passenger ferry! This trip is not appropriate for infants or toddlers. But once kids are 4-5 years old, they really enjoy it!

  • Sailing Adventure for up to 6 people
You'll explore Gloucester harbor and beyond aboard a very comfortable 36-foot Sailing Yacht. This will be a small group sail for up to 6 individuals. If you would like it to be a private sail please book 6 spots! You can choose to take an active role in sailing this boat and learn the "ropes" of sailing or just sit back and enjoy the amazing experience. We'll sail by Ten Pound Island, Niles Beach, the Dog Bar, and much more... We can also anchor and swim for a little while! Light refreshments and snacks will be offered. Longer charters and overnight experiences in Gloucester and other ports can be arranged. Other things to note If the weather and sea conditions do not allow for a comfortable sail we will reschedule for a different time. Each booking reserves a trip for up to 6 people.

  • Explore Salem's Witch Hysteria & More
Salem is a beautiful, historic city best known for its tragic 'Witch' Trials. Our walk and talk will provide an overview of our history, from our founding in 1626 to the Witch Hysteria of 1692, to the current day, with some sites from Hocus Pocus tossed in. The tour length is 2 hours depending on the interaction and the pace of the group, and we'll cover about 2 1/2 miles. As a resident, I can share a local perspective to help bring Salem alive for you and help with any tips that may make your visit more enjoyable. Our tour is historical, but I will sprinkle in a few legends and hauntings along the way. If the dates/times of the tour posted do not work for you, drop me a note and I will try to accommodate your travel plans. Just for fun, tours offered at night will include some 'ghosty' kind of stuff as well. I realize not every guest has the mobility for a tour this long with no seating options. If you'd prefer a shorter tour with less walking, let me know and I'll try to make it work.

  • Guided mountain biking excursions
My experience begins at the Sewall Woods recreational area, where guests are provided hard tail mountain bikes and helmets. I’ll explain how your bikes works and give tips along the way for those newer to trail riding. At Sewall woods we have about 4 miles of single track, mountain biking trail, through a quiet heavily wooded area. Once we’ve completed Sewall we will continue to the Fernald Station singletrack off the Cotton Valley railtrail. Here the trail rambles along the Wiley Brook for a mile or so, before winding back into the woods, for a few more miles of twisty singletrack. After we’ve completed our ride, I’m glad suggest places to eat of other fun things to do in the area. Other things to note Timing is flexible, let me know what works for you. Bikes ARE provided Please wear comfortable exercise clothing
