Airbnb Superhost award 4 quarters in a row. Check independent previous guest 5 star reviews. Hosted on-site in adjacent apartment by Canadian/English husband and wife team keeping standards high. Light filled airy home, 10ft ceiling, look over the rooftops to the ocean, side elevation window and own entrance. 1500 sq ft with large rooms; living room, kitchen, dining area, king bedroom, pillow top mattress and antique glass tile tub and shower. Experience an authentic Mexican Barrio for yourself.

The space

We picked our location as it provides everything within walking distance. Art galleries, Restaurants, Public music events, Tiendas, Bars, and beaches. And if you want to go further afield - the bus at the bottom of the street. We also decided we did not want to be like an all-inclusive hotel but wanted an authentic Mexican environment and a view of Banderas Bay. Your deck is private - unlike other properties where you find you get to share a common deck with other building residents and their families.

Guest access

Aldama runs up from the sea and vehicle access stops 120 yards from our Casa. The pedestrian access up has a ramp that works with suitcase wheels, you will still need to carry your case up some stairs. There is a Descanso (resting place) halfway up. My 90 year old Mom made the walk with only 1 stop at the Descanso, although we did carry her case for her! You have your own private entrance with an antique double wooden door. on day trips walk down and then get a cab back to the top of Aldama - it makes the walk up our hill more comfortable.

Interaction with guests

We have lived in our 3 level Casa in Puerto Vallarta for 11 years. We love living in a Mexican Barrio so close to all of the myriad of activities in walking distance. We take pride in our hosting package which is designed to make your visit memorable. Locally we absorb the full cultural experience which includes occasional barking dogs, children playing, cockerel crowing and Mariachi music. We live next door to you at the Casa and so know the area well and can provide a lot of our experience and the experiences of previous guests to you.

Other things to note

We live in a safe area - Laura has lived here alone when I have been away in Europe and has walked home from friends alone at midnight.
Culturally Mexicans look at silver as something to sell to the tourists but gold is a valuable commodity - so we tend not to wear it. The water is chlorinated and we use it in cooking but we supply you filtered water to drink "au natural". We will need access a couple of times a week to water the plants so let us know if you have a preferred time or otherwise we will try to time it for when you are out for the day.

Our stay with Barry was everything I have come to expect and love of Airbnb experiences! The space is as specified (and consistent with the pictures). The bed is amazing; everything you need is available and easy find in the house. Barry is incredibly helpful and easy to connect and communicate with. The when in Mexico warnings: hot water is slow and tepid compared to Canada winter standards, but it does happen. If you are looking for quiet - this will only work if you exclude the dogs, the roosters, the city, the neighbours, and... ;) If you are looking to be in the thick of the culture and have a nice breezy retreat from the heat - this is definitely the place. Do not go to Puerto Vallarta without visiting Tortilleria Aries (and get panela from the cheese man there), nor without the coconut marguerita from marguerita grill to go with a treat from the bakery across the street.

Response from Barry:
Glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for the gift of the cheese! Sorry if the water was not warm enough but actually it is easy to move the dial to a hotter temperature.

This is a lovely apartment on Aldama exactly as Barry and Laura have described. The pictures don't really give you an idea of how spacious it is. The deck runs the whole length of the building and is nice and cool in the evening. There are 2 bedrooms available with this apartment but I only needed the one. The beds are big and comfortable perfect for a good nights sleep. Kitchen has everything you need and the living room is huge. Barry and Laura are brilliant hosts and will make you feel welcome and are always available if needed as they usually live on premises. As noted the climb is a heart pumper but the views especially from the penthouse will take your breath away. So best rest first before looking. As mentioned this is where the locals live. It is part of it's charm and I love that and the sounds that come with it. If you are a light sleeper ear plugs will work.

Barry and his wife Laura are both kind, great people. They were beyond accommodating, and were always reachable when we needed advice or tips on where to go, what to do, how to get there, etc. Their home is located on a hill, so you will be required to walk up a fair amount of stairs to get to it, but when you do... you'll realize that it's worth it. There is an amazing view from the terrace and it is usually cooler up in the apartment than it is on the lower ground. The apartment itself is very spacious, with a fully equipped kitchen. Location wise, it's tough to beat. A mere 5 minute or so walk and you're at the centre of the malecon and have access to dozens of restaurants. We walked everywhere and have never felt worried or in danger. The area is very safe. Loved our time there and would definitely stay there again :)

We loved our stay at Barry and Laura's home. The hike up the hill got to be a bit much once the temps got up there but all in all it was a great place. Loved all the church bells and the sounds of the neighborhood children.

There are not enough adjectives to describe how great our stay at Barry's home was. The space was clean, homey, spacious, and had everything needed for a short or extended stay. Barry and his wife made our Check-In very easy and even provided us with fruit, coffee, cookies, and bread to make the start of our stay more comfortable. Their tips on beaches activities were spot-on and helped us get the most out of our trip. I can honestly say only great things about Barry and his home. Also, you will never tire of the amazing view from the patio. Highly Recommend!

The house is as pictured perhaps even more spacious in person the bathroom was fine the kitchen was lovely the veranda is just exquisite you can sit out there all day and as the sun goes down you get glorious sunsets everything about the house and the hosts was wonderful but I must say it takes a fairly sturdy pair of legs to climb From the beach back up to your home. INdeed there were several nights when we wished to go back downtown and, frankly, the long walk down the cobblestone street and back up again made us decide otherwise. one does get used to it but honestly, it takes a few days. BUt the home is inviting, the weather on the hillside is so great -cool enough to dive under the soft blanket at night and cuddle up. We loved our stay, shopping around the corner for a few groceries, the view, the fireworks every nite around 9 that seemed to be directly aimed at your bedroom window. A great stay!!! And the hosts were perfectly lovely.

Thanks Andi for your suggestion that our photos really do not show how large the apartment is - we will add some more. We look forward to seeing you again.

The apartment is exactly as described, spacious & with a fabulous bed. Our hosts perfect. And being up high had great views and a cool breeze. There are local Mexican neighbourhood noises, so if you are a light sleeper bring some ear plugs. Sunset on the deck with a cool drink just magical. We are so relaxed I've forgotten the day. As per other reviews, there are easy stairs (you get use to that pretty quickly) which means no traffic !!!
