The space itself is pretty nice, but the listing forgets to tell you that it is in the basement of a family basement. At times the family can be loud, which wasn't the best. The host never comes downstairs, which is nice and we had our own entrance. The neighborhood that it is …
Response from Thierry:
Dear BJ, I am sorry to hear that you had less than a stellar experience staying in our basement apartment. I wish you had communicate your concerns during your stay as it is our goal to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I first of all want to apologize if there was any confusion about the fact that it is a basement apartment as it is clearly stated in the description of the home. We live between two cities and as you have noticed during your stay, most of the time we are not there. We did have a guests a few time when we were in the home and wish you had let us know that it was noisy as we would have easily remedy to that. The onetime $50 cleaning fees partially covers the cleaning cost after a guest leaves. This includes removal of trash and left over food as well as a throughout cleaning of the rooms and bathroom. In addition, we provide replacement sheets and towels during the stay. As a courtesy, we sometimes offer to clean downstairs when our cleaning lady comes, but when that happened during your stay, you were not in and for respect to your privacy, we could not send someone in the apartment in your absence. You noted that the house was in a not so safe neighborhood and I would like to rectify this inaccurate information. The community is less than three years old and there have never been any incidents in this neighborhood. I concede that as in all large metropolitan area, there some unsafe niches in the areas surrounding Washington, DC, but Camp Springs is considered a pretty safe area. The fact that the neighborhood is quiet and safe is attested by the reviews of previous hosts. Another particularity of large metropolitan areas in the time to commute. We are located at 25 min from downtown DC by driving. It also takes around 25 min to ride from the closest metro to downtown DC. Finally, I would like to sincerely apologize about the boxes. We have ordered new dining chairs and there was a mix-up with delivery. The package were finally deliver when we were out of town. We were unsure what to do and to avoid having them standing in from of the house for several days, we asked if you could help by putting them inside, which you agreed to do. It was a mistake on our part as it is not your place as guests to help us out. We are again sincerely sorry about that. Please accept our apologies. We are glad that you found that the space was nice and spacious and again we are very sorry if there was any misunderstand that resulted in a less than stellar experience during your stay.
We are a couple of young professionals working in the engineering and medical research fields. I (Thierry) am very friendly whereas Giny is on the quiet side of the spectrum. We both like to meet people and discover new cultures. We love traveling, watching movies and grilling (w…
