The carriage house is located inside a 5-acre gated estate that is super secure and private. The place is like a park with curiosities from all over the world.
The owners live in the big house on the estate so we're active on the property. One is a world traveller, and I am a multi tech company founder/entrepreneur along with my partner. Nothing ordinary here!
We've named the property 'Calm Chaos', to match the personalities and activities that seem to appear as city meets country engaged in actively transforming this part of the planet we now live.
This is an animal lovers paradise as we are. Imaging hanging with 5 very spoiled cheeky macaws (at your option) and seeing 6 very happy cats running around interacting as cats do.
The wild birds often land on your head or hand, deer, hawks, eagles and the resident bard owl make our forest their home.
Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by an 8-foot fence and a bi-fold medieval iron gate adorned by 2 - 8-foot parrot gargoyles at the top of each gate post. (The parrot statues were once the brand for a popular restaurant chain.)
There are also 2 security cameras for remote access to the property. There is a camera at outside of the garage facing the carriage house. We'll meet you once inside and give you a fob for use during your stay.
The unit has a new washer and dryer. Two heat pumps for heat in the colder months and cool air in the summer. The bathroom with the half bathroom has a heated seat and bidet - environmentally friendly and hygienic as does the main bathroom.
Inside the guest house is funky and recycled materials were used in it's transformation. Two old growth Cedar and Douglas Fir trees on the back forest blew over in a storm and we arranged for a portable sawmill to come over and mill the trees into lumber.
All the trim and exposed wood in the guest house are from these two trees plus the live edge kitchen counter, desk, end table, kitchen table and the oustide stairs.
Free super-fast Wi-Fi and Ethernet in every room for gaming or super clear screen share. The office / 3rd bedroom is a totally separate and quiet work space with ethernet and WiFi. There is Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, and Paramount+.
I was really picky about making sure the Internet was super fast inside the unit. That’s why there is ethernet in every room or super fast Wifi. I have also built a fast network outside – from the front gate all the way to the pond and gazebo out back and up to the start of the forest. See me if you want outside wireless access and I can hook you up. You can use your laptop by the pond and gazebo if you want!
We offer brewed coffee maker, Instant coffee Nespresso maker and pods, Kettle for boiling water for tea or instant coffee.
There is a huge back deck out back above a stream facing a forest and the horse farm next door. It has a propane firepit, top of the line new gas BBQ, an outdoor kitchen grill, an in the deck hot tub so all you have to do is step down into the 104 degree water. The deck is totally private and magical under towering Douglas Fir trees.
The property is well within walking distance of the local pub that overlooks the bay (they even have a shuttle service to drive you home at the end of your night).
Maple Bay marina is close by boasting a coffee shop and restaurant. You can also rent kayaks and paddle boards at the marina. Harbor Air has 4 daily, 20 minute flights from downtown Vancouver or Richmond to the marina if you don't want to drive from the mainland.
Calm Chaos is only a 6 minute drive from the marina and we can arrange for guests to be picked-up should you decide to fly one in on Harbour Air from Vancouver. It's a 40 minute flight and there are 4 flights daily from Coal Harbour or Richmond.
There are lots of world class hiking and biking trails close by.
Walking distance to tennis courts, pickle ball courts.
We can arrange for a private chef to come in and cook dinner for you. Or if you want a yoga lesson, we offer this as well.
Maple Bay is in the heart of the island's wine country. Some of the most sought-after wines in B.C. are grown and produced, right here in the Cowichan Vally. You can tour wineries and then go take a bite at local bistro.
A 45-minute drive to Victoria B.C. Harbor City Nanaimo a 40-minute drive away.
Whale watching, museum, art studios and warm friendly locals are just a few of the reasons why Maple Bay really is a magical place to work stay and play.
We allow pets. Some restrictions apply.
For week or longer stays we can arrange for cleaning while staying ( at a preset cost). We require a weekly light clean access during long stays.
The property is 5 acres and gated. It's teched out on the inside surrounded by nature. Wifi spanning most of the property. From EV charging to super high speed wifi or Ethernet in every room / dual monitor gaming setup in the Harry Potter room!
You have access to the back forest and trails. There is a creek with a pond, a covered gazabo with seating and a wood burning stove for your use.
Guest access
We have a mountain/ forest view not a waterfront or water-view property. The property is only a short walk down to the ocean. You have full access to our private secure 5 acre estate plus our forest out back is one of the last ancient forest stands left in Maple Bay. You'll see lots of stunning views. It’s home to many forms of wildlife including bard owls, deer, hawks,eagles, rabbits, racoons, ottors and the occasional bear every spring. There is an unique array of medicinal mushrooms that we turn into medicine right on the property. There is a gazabo out back beside the pond with a waterfall and a wood burning fireplace. The space under a large steel roof is filled with an antiquities that give it the feeling of Harry Potter’s living room. Not far away is an off-leash dog park, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and kids play area. If you are bringing your bikes or running shoes there are lots of trails to explore near by – plus trails in our private forest where yoga and meditation sessions with local practitioners.
Other things to note
The carraige house and property have a strict no smoking policy in the facilities. PETS - please read below. SMOKING - Smoking outside in designated areas. There is an additional charge per person per night above one. We require that we know the exact number of guest's head count as it's a requirement of our insurance and security. THIRD PARTY BOOKINGS = strictly prohibited. LONGER STAYS (more than a week) require weekly light in unit cleaning. NO parties or out of hand loud music. HOT TUB Showering is required before using the hot tub. Extra cleaning charges my be added to your stay if the water needs to be changed due to dirt, oil or grime following your stay. SEASONAL RESTRICTIONS. Seasonal water and fire restrictions may require water management and no open fires.
PETS - We love that you bring your fur babies. Leaving them in the house for more than 3 hours is is a solid no and subject to canceling your stay. Leaving your pets in the house all day you embark on your adventures isn't acceptable. We are here and walk by the house, the animals are stessed, we are stressed wondering what they are doing inside and it's just not fair to them. There are local dog walkers and kennels you can arrrange for daycare. If you aren't going to include your pets in your adventures, leave them at home at a kennel or with a pet sitter.
