Guests rave about the panoramic view and the blend of traditional Colonial and Contemporary Design. The Designers created shaded and sunny seating areas and the open light infused living space is accented by beams. The palapa accessed by a staircase has loungers that provide a unique floating view over the bay and 360 degree views - great private deck to watch the world (and the occasional whale!) drift by. The crown jewel of your space. So good that multiple guests "complain" its hard to leave!

The space

The penthouse is really on top of all of the traditional Puerto Vallarta with a light filled open panoramic living space. The real Mexican Barrio experience is here. A short stroll down to the sea, art galleries, tequila museum, quality restaurants and more. You have shaded and covered decks and a roof top palapa with loungers to take advantage of that panoramic view. These decks are private - not like other rooftop decks that you get to share with other building residents and their families. Kitchen, dining room, lounge, bathroom are fully equipped Large bedroom features king bed with carved wood headboard and new pillow-top mattress. Check out prior guests comments on their 5 star ranking.

Guest access

Our casa contains 3 apartments and we live in the centre one - so your penthouse is up above us. The palapa is accessed from your deck up a circular staircase (1 drink max up there!) In order to access the view we are located up a hill so 150 yard pedestrian access up a sloping cobble stone ramp and stairs means this location is not suitable for those with mobility issues.
Good news is that you will not need a gym membership to shed those extra pounds from enjoying the Mexican food and maybe the odd Margarita or Cerveza. You have your own entrance door and a marble staircase leading to the penthouse from a common hall shared with our apartment.

Interaction with guests

We live in the building on the second level and have owned the property for 10 years. We live here ( not off-site) so we are always available to make your stay a memorable one. We know from our own experience of traveling and using Airbnb that we prefer resident hosts as it enhances the experience. We know the city well and you will find a personal travel guide in the penthouse. We are able to have someone meet and greet you at the Airport upon arrival for $25 - just let us know what time that you are arriving.

Other things to note

If you are able to use travel backpacks or wheeled luggage it will make your transit easier to get up to the apartment as we live in El Cerro (The hill).
We will need access to your space to water the plants and change the luxurious towels. Bedding will be changed twice a week.

What a beautiful location. The view is to die for and the local shops and restaurants are amazing. Just a few minutes walk to the boardwalk and all of Puerta Vallarta is yours! Barry and his lovely wife welcomed us into their home to speak about things to do and what makes this area so special. Their home is amazing. A special thanks to Barry for having a great water supply for drinking water. That helped a lot as taking groceries up the hill is not the easiest thing to do.

What an amazing stay we had at Barry and Laura's penthouse! Lovely and large apartment with spectacular views of the ocean and city. To wake up and retire to this was awe inspiring. We have never stayed in such a spectacular setting. The apartment is in the El Cerro area in the Centro district and it was a wonderful cultural experience to be among the residents of Puerto Vallarta, away from the more touristy areas. Everything you might want to do or visit (El Malecon, restaurants, local market, Romantic zone) was within walking distance. If your legs get tired, you can catch a taxi back for 50-60 pesos. We asked Barry to pick us up at the airport. This really helped us to get acclimated, and he gave us an overview of what to expect and do on the ride into town. This helped launch our exciting week long stay. We mastered the buses, which were very inexpensive. The bus to Boca de Tomatlan, where we caught a water taxi to Las Animas beach, was only 15 pesos for the 2 of us. We got 2 loungers and an umbrella at Mike's restaurant. Good food and margaritas. You also catch the water taxi to Ocean Grille (highly recommended) from Boca. We also took the bus to Sayulita (about an hour drive) from Walmart. This bus cost more (I think it was 60 pesos for each of us), but Sayulita was our favorite beach. Great sand, lots of restaurants, and surfing. Barry and Laura were fantastic hosts. We couldn't ask for more, and will be sure to check back the next time we are in PV.

My wife and I just stayed here in March, 2017. Barry and Laura really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to make our stay enjoyable. They are super friendly, knowledgeable about the area, communicative, and so very helpful. We couldn’t have asked for better hosts. They even tracked down the local tamale vendor for me as he walked by and alerted me so I could come down and buy them straight from his bucket. The location was perfect for us. It was our first visit to PV, so we really wanted to experience the city. We were able to walk all over El Centro, Zona Romatica, and elsewhere. We walked day and night, through all the surrounding neighborhoods, through dark, quiet streets and past groups of youths or others, and never felt any threat from the friendly residents. When we couldn’t walk to our destination, buses and taxis were seemingly always there. Still, if you want the more tourist-y experience, it’s just a few blocks walk to the party on the Malecon. The unit, itself, was clean, roomy, airy, and well-stocked. We never needed air conditioning despite the outside heat. There is always a beautiful breeze, so we just opened the glass patio doors and let it sweep through. At night we closed the doors and windows to keep the gatos, geckos, and night club music out, but it was still cool enough to use blankets. The view – as mentioned by others – is spectacular. When on the penthouse patio, it feels like you’re on top of the mountain, yet right there in the city. It’s hard to believe there are places further up the hill (there are). On the terrace, every morning began with a scan of the seascape and landscape, every evening bore witness to a magnificent sunset, and every night ended with a recap and nightcap (and sometimes 40 winks in the hammock). I could live just on that terrace.

The place is spectacular. The pictures are all accurate, but it's even more impressive in person. The glass walls all fold out of the way to open the salon and deck in one continuous space. Views to die for! You look down on the centro part of town and can see all the way to the sea, about 8 blocks away. In four days we spent a lot of time on that deck. Large bed in a large bedroom, and a nicely equipped kitchen. We cooked several meals at the apartment, and had several in local restaurants. Barry and Laura are very accommodating, and also well prepared, hosts. The apartment was stocked with everything you need to be comfortable. The welcome book they provide shows their deep knowledge of the town and includes lots of info on anything you might need. We needed an unplanned visit to a doctor and found one in the info book who got us in the same day. That would have been hard to do on our own. To get the top of the world view, you pay with your legs: it's the equivalent of about a 7 floor walk-up from the closest parking space to the penthouse apartment. So pack light. There are a few night clubs at the foot of the street on the Malecon that were loud late into the night, but not every night. If you sleep with the windows open, you might need earplugs. Lots of grocery tiendas, bars, restaurants, art galleries in easy walking distance. Also cabs are everywhere and cheap. We've stayed in several Airbnb apartments and Barry and Laura are really top hosts who take their role seriously. And really nice people, too!

The view. The view. The view. And, oh, did I say the view! Being up the hill provides a breeze and a respite from the heat that can collect down in the city. You also get to watch the city, the sunsets- they were something-, the nightly fireworks and the whales. Barry met us at the airport, gave a great tour on the way in, and was available and responsive to all of our questions and observations. We found the accommodations as advertised; comfortable, attractive and well appointed. It was a very lovely place to stay, neighborhood roosters included. The stairs from the street to the apartment do get easier with practice.
